The end of an era as the Cuban women will NOT be in the Olympics. If I remember correctly (new-ish volleyball fan) Cuba has at LEAST been in the past 5 Olympics (3 golds, a bronze, and 4th).
Is this the end of their program? It seems as if Cuba was definitely struggling and their power was diminishing, but is the final nail in the coffin?
Sad because Cuba's style of play is quite unique and I love the athleticism.

More than Cuba lacks athletes I think they lack adequate training. Those that have gone on to professional careers after the NT have had great success. The coaches in Cuba are old-school and they have yet to fully embrace modern setting and offense. More teams now more than ever have the athleticism to match Cuba and do not lot allow them to get away with things that they would be able to do before. I think until we either see Cuban coaches get further training and move away from their outdated style or players are allowed to compete professionally outside of Cuba we'll continue to see a similar pattern.

Modern setting & offense??? That is where the problems lie? If I was hired tomorrow, I wouldn't touch their offense... My priorities would be: 1. Fix the block 2. Reduce runs of service errors, even at the expense of some aces. 3. Reduce reception errors, just turn some into 1's. I don't care about more 3's. 4. Improve first contact (non-serve receive). My team would still look like Cuba, 6-2 offense and all because that is what maximizes their talents. Cuba's coaches have failed in preventing opponents points more than they have failed in scoring their own points.

Cuba needs to control their side of the net more than any opponent out there. They've had the emotional range of a 13 year old teenage girl when times get tough and the passing goes south.
