TOTV thanks for getting it going. I need to fry up a big 'ol something for you! TOTV you need to enlighten us about the Gators roster who are the standouts this year. Dawgs looking better with new setter, Auburn got some back row talent this year but my pick is still The Lady Vols!

Usually in July I'm getting excited, but the coming season hasn't grabbed me yet. I guess it's because Florida is likely to be down this year. But I am curious to see what the newbies will bring, along with the progression of Mann and Santos. I'm hoping it will be a case of underpromise and overdeliver this year. Passing will be the key for Mann's success, but based on how she ended the season and the summer she had, she is going to be a monster.

Yeah, and passing has been a primary issue the past few years. Maybe Recek will improve the passing consistency -- it often seems eastern Europeans are better schooled in fundamentals. I agree about Mann though. I wasn't sold when she first signed -- another Mary Wise project to try to turn an athlete into a volleyball player -- but she was impressive stepping up last year.

Interesting that Tennessee goes with Florida over Kentucky with their first place vote (can't vote for yourself). That could be bulletin board material for the Cats when they square off with both UF and UT.
UT is undoubtedly the top team on paper, but it could be a slug fest for the SEC title this year. Adding A&M and Missouri makes for some deeper competition this fall.

Interesting that Tennessee goes with Florida over Kentucky with their first place vote (can't vote for yourself). I'll have to look back, but I don't think Rob has ever not picked Florida (obviously with all the SEC titles its been a smart pick but its just an interesting bit with what has been going in the last few years). I'm assuming his pick is based on UF's tradition and his respect for what Mary is able to do...but if I were him I would have just done it to spite UK who has been a become an important rivalry the last few years. Also, I don't think I ever posted it on this board, but I used my own mathematical formula when the SEC schedule was released and came to the conclusion Florida had the easiest schedule (in terms of teams they played and where) but it did not include intangibles such as the effects long travel between away matches could have now that we don't have travel partners as I didn't know how to account for that.

^^^I take it that calculates the SEC schedule right? No one else in the conference plays two stronger opponents non-conference than Texas and Stanford. Neutral court, obviously, but still two top 5 teams.

Thrill I'm in the midst of working on a list of SEC schedule strength. If you've already done the work I'd love to see the full list if you still have it.

Yes, I can confirm. The Florida vote has to be a combination of all 3... tradition, ease of schedule, and spiting KY. [glow=red,2,300]GO LADY VOLS![/glow]

^^^I take it that calculates the SEC schedule right? No one else in the conference plays two stronger opponents non-conference than Texas and Stanford. Neutral court, obviously, but still two top 5 teams. Yes, it was strictly the conference schedule for each SEC team. Thrill I'm in the midst of working on a list of SEC schedule strength. If you've already done the work I'd love to see the full list if you still have it. I have it somewhere in a notebook and will keep looking around for it (I have dozens of mislabeled notebooks in my room) although it was by no means the best system. What I did was look at last year's results and roster changes (who was leaving and joining each team) to determine worth for each team. Mizzou and TAMU kind of threw a kink in this system since they weren't in the SEC last year but I found some common opponents to assign them a score I felt comfortable with. I then added a minimal points to an opponent if it was away, and subtracted a minimal amount if it was played at home (because I personally believe, especially in the SEC, that home/away does not have much of an impact unless except in special circumstances). I then added the points of each match. Once every schedule had a score, I put them in order. I did send some information along to a friend in a text message based on things I found/noticed so I was able to retrieve that: Florida had the easiest schedule. South Carolina had the hardest schedule BUT it was pretty close to toughness of other schools such as Bama, UGA, Ole Miss, etc. Arkansas is the only team that faces all of my top 5 ranked SEC teams twice. (Wish I could find my data so I can figure out how they didn't have the hardest schedule when doing that...I guess the other repeat opponents must have been the weakest?). Ole Miss and TAMU will each have to play Tennessee, Florida, LSU, and Kentucky in a stretch. I was actually going to pm it to you when I did it James because I knew you'd give me great feedback on the system such as how to improve it but I got sidetracked. Anyways, I would love to see what kind of system you end up using and what results it comes up with.
