Cardullo is also another player that could have been one of the best in her position in the world if not for those injuries. "Could have been" ? I think it says a lot that even with multiple injuries across her entire career Cardullo is still far far better than 90% of liberi out there. I think she and Lo Bianco made Italy what it has been. Without them, Italy just reduces to a has been.

You could have listed Sykora as an injury. I know it was a while ago, but it seems clear she would have been on the team if not for that bus crash. I suppose I could have included Sykora. I limited my 'injured and unable to compete' list to the players who were on active rosters for Olympic qualification tournaments starting 2011.

After Lo Bianco, I would put Gioli ahead of Cardullo though in the list of what is keeping Italy competitive.

Speaking of injuries, guess who is out of the Olympics due to a right ankle injury.
Yup, Cardullo has been replaced by De Gennaro due to Cardullo's failure to recover fully in time.

She's not only hitting well, also is a quite good receiver.

I was referring more to who has been the key for them over the last 7-10 years, not how they're playing now. As I recall, I believe they even both got their start with the same Italian junior club before moving up to Serie A.
