Fun match to watch! I think there are plenty of things the USA can improve upon. It's good to find out now before Brazil. I thought Larson was the most consitant of the USA players and seemed very focused for it being her first Olympics. Davis can't be happy with her performance. Two bad free ball passes with all the time in the world. Not acceptable at this level. Hooker and Berg both struggled with blocking on the right. I saw a couple of times where Tom tried to get over to the right to block but was late getting there and got caught out of position. I thought Haneef and Thompson played their part in the double sub as planned. Thompson had a couple of real nice sets to Harmotto, which she wasn't getting from Berg. I think in general the passing could of been a little more precise. They were saying Hugh likes his team to pass about 5-8 feet off the net, however, it seemed to me that a lot of passes were 10-12 feet off the net. However, when Berg did get a chance to set middles, the connection seemed a little off. Hopefully that improves soon. I was impressed with S. Korea's defense and hitter coverage. Kim was impressive on the left.

My first impressions on just watching the last two sets, which are often over-reactions: - Davis had a poor game overall. Defensively, our block wasn't helping her. - Berg did not connect well, but the passing wasn't doing her any favors. Thompson did look better with the middles, but not as much with Larson. - Kim won the third set. - Harmotto seems to take a moment longer to read plays from what I have been used to seeing. However, she is hitting the snot out of the ball. - Larson was very impressive to me.
First Olympic match for many of the players, so it was nice to see them perform well.

Love it.... typical of this board... name call. Nice work. "Magruder" isn't much of an insult. Don't know why you're so vehement about this. I doubt the Koreans even care. Actually it was a failed attempt at humor by me. I meant to say "Zapruder" and blew it. That is why I put a happy face so no one would be offended. Once again, humor has failed me. Just trying to pull his chain bout "I have the video and I am positive." No more fun on this board okay?

Also, in an aside, this is SO much better than women's basketball, even at its highest levels. Maybe because the women's net is lower in volleyball while there's no comparable rules adjustment in women's basketball. Isn't the women's ball smaller than the mens?

Not sure there's time to work on much. If Berg and the MB don't have it together by now, practicing on off days isn't going to help. The idea appears to be get the ball to the MB as quick as possible, on a straight line, and count on Foluke and Harmotto to react and puch the ball to an open territory. Scott is great at that. Blocking was late because Korea passed great, leaving multiple options, then Korea set very fast and with combos. Blockers are only human, can't cover everything. When Berg was in the front row USA was trying some tricks, with Berg covering the opposite side so others could slide over to Kim. Don't think it worked too well. That being said, US won the block battle 15-1. I know stats don't mean a lot, but if Korea hadn't covered so well (the one skill I think international teams have way over elite NCAA teams) the numbers could have been higher. Finally, the double switch worked just as planned in the fourth set. Broke open a close match right at the 17-20 point mark. As the team gets more confidence I believe the double switch will become more and more a weapon. Korea kept going to the left, and there were Haneef's big hands waiting over the net.

Worked three out of four times. Will take that all day long. Brazil should be a tougher challenge, however.

The women's basketball also isn't round, which is a big part of their problem.

One time an older gentleman came up and tried to battle dance me...turns out he was just having an epileptic seizure.
