Well, I held out until Wednesday, longer than I thought I would.
Competition for the London Olympic Games begins on saturday with USA taking on (South) Korea.
USA faced Korea at World Cup where USA won easily.
Korea plays quick and low to the net (aside from Kim Y. K.). They may find themselves in trouble trying to hit around a good American block.
Thoughts/predictions on the match?
The match is scheduled to start at Noon PT, 3pm ET.

This will be a bit different South Korean team from the one that USA met in World Cup. Korea had a lousy tournament preparation for World Cup last year and they couldn't field a complete team due to conflicts with their domestic league.
So far this season, I haven't seen them play with a complete team yet. They withheld Kim Y.K. from the World Grand Prix matches. She traveled but was mostly on the bench. I have seen Kim play a lot in the past 1.5 years though and she is a treat to watch.
I had predicted 3-0 for USA in another forum but considering possible first olympic match jitters for some, plus some expected body fatigue from Opening Ceremonies... I can see the match going 4 sets, with some uncharacteristic (sloppy) play.

We've seen this US team start off slow in big competitions. But how can you not get amped up for the Olympics! USA in 3.

Destinee got her start in professional volleyball in Korea, so she is known to the domestic players there; I believe she was hitting left then, and it means little. I assume Foluke and Harmotto will be cheating toward Kim, who looks world class playing for that Turkish team. Hoping the US block will wear down the korean hitters, and US will be in control after a close first set that could go either way.
By the way, are they doing the 3 points for 3-0 or 3-1, two points for 3-2 thingamagiggy?

MarsH -- will you be posting the matches on your youtube? To be honest, I don't know yet since I don't know which matches I will have online access to, if any. I don't have an NBC subscription.

For an Asian team, Korea does not pass well, particularly their L2 Song Yi-Han. Kim is a better passer but I anticipate USA will serve her as many balls to get her out of attacking rhthym. Korean MB's are much better blockers than they are attackers and even in system the Korean offense relies much more heavily on the pins. Their starting OPP is an undersized lefty at just 5'9''-5'10'' and very error prone. If Korea serves tough, they have a pretty good serving team I would say highlighted by Kim's jumper, I can see a set or two being close but I would anticipate a USA sweep. Outside of Kim Korea won't be able to consistently hang with the USA at the net over the course of the match, IMO of course, GO USA!

I have not seen the national team play before, so I am excited for the opportunity. I am glad that indoor volleyball is finally getting some top tier space on a major network. I just hope the coverage is good.
