1st off congrats on a great start and getting the team ready and focused. You and your staff have a great steady mentality that shows in the team. hopefully the team keeps performing at this level but here's some suggestions none the less.
Ak is the best slide hitter in the world. She should be in the M1 position so she can run the slide more.
Harmotto is connecting better in front so the M2 spot works better.
To earn more transition kills move Hooker to the left when we serve. Keep her in the RS position but have her block and transition hit on the left when we serve because she is our best terminator with out of system digs. The backrow strategy is awesome.
Our 3 passers are doing great. Larson solidifies the passing and defense so keep Hodge out.
Set the middles more, tell Hooker to stay aggressive and the team stay hungry and humble and Gold is ours!!
That's all Hugh. Have a good night ol chap.

Still need that Hooker block on the right, but that suggestion might be nice (Hooker on left) if Gamova is across the net. I like Hooker on the left, but you need Tom and Larson's floor defense on the left also, and they both block well. For now, Hooker stays on the right, except in the one serve receive rotation where she has just rotated up.

Left front floor defense is minimal compared to transition kills. Your right Larson and Tom block well and would be fine RS to block. Hooker gets high but isn't a great blocker.
I think my suggestions could give us a couple more points and maybe we won't need them but maybe we will.

We had problems with tips from the Brazilian OHs as it was...putting DH on the left would invite even more of those. If I'm reading these FIVB style stats right, Hooker had 20 kills (35% of the US total) and hit .454 (american). my favorite play of the match had to be the tandem with the Slide and DH from the back row. (30 set?)

That's all Hugh. Have a good night ol chap. Obviously, Hugh disagrees with your suggestions. I'll throw in some potential reasons: AK & Hooker are possibly the best blocking tandem in the world and have been blocking together for quite sometime. Moving AK to M1 would mean that they block together for only one rotation. Their block is a point-generating machine for the team, more so than an extra slide attack (it's not like Harmotto is chopped liver on the slide anyway). Hugh took Scott-Arruda over Bown despite Bown being a better slide hitter and possibly the best slide hitter on the team. To me, that indicated that he felt the slide attack was not very important to his offense. I disagree with your opinion that Hooker is the best terminator on out of system digs and sets. Hooker is not yet very creative in her attacking. Out of system, she pretty much just tips and pushes. In system, she may be the best in the world and if we're in system, we can set her whether she is left or right side. On the right side, she generally faces a weaker defense and therefore is virtually automatic. Further, she is poor on floor defense compared to Larson & Tom. Putting her on left side pretty much puts a big target on her head for opposing attackers and guarantees a large number of attempted digs for her. Your points have merit, but probably more so for a different system with different values. At this stage, the team and systems are set and aren't going to be changed. The team will win or lose with who they are at this point.

Not sure it's obvious. Anyway your points have merit as well. Hugh hasn't coached women and that maybe why he doesn't see the slight advantage of AK at M1. My suggestions would like create a few more kills per set without giving up much. Also, DH could block either way depending on the hitter. As far as LFront defense 4 digs were made from that position in the entire match. Gotta weight the options and maximize the opportunities to score. Seeing that both middles combined for less than 10% of the kills (with AK missing several in front) and our transition kill% at below average, these suggestions may help. Or not. Either way I love the coaching staff and hope we take the Gold "with authority!" (Albert voice)

Yoda, great points all, but I think your comment about Hugh never coaching women is a little dated. He has coached them now for almost 4 years against the finest conmpetition in the world. I have to believe there isn't much about the women's game he hasn't grasped by now. I would rather look at it as, at some time he contemplated your ideas, weighed them and decided to go to the status quo. Any good coaching staff (and this one is great) spends hours looking at every conceivable combination. It is in their hands now, lets see how it flows.

Really too late to change MB rotations, and especially moving Hooker around, anyway. I'm sure adjustments will be made within what they've been practicing for months.
I really like Hooker on the left, by the way. In that Texas Penn State final Engels sets were all over the place during the first two sets, and Destinee buried them. She can hit out of system on the left. Maybe in the future US can find a passing OPP.

Mistakes will be made. The differences in the Male/female games are huge. Even so this coaching staff is awesome. I wouldn't make changes now either other than situationally switching DH to the Left when we serve. Or if our middle attack starts going south. Always gotta have a plan in the Jedi book.

Or you could trust in the process you've developed and fine tuned over 4 years.......
