Brazil up 2-0. Russia playing like crap but a Mikhaylov service run put them awfully close. As a USA fan would prefer to see them go 5.

3-0 Brazil, we are now tied atop Pool B. Missed the game, anyone who didn't mind giving their impressions on how strong the two teams looked?

Brazil in 3. At the end of the first net some heavy duty jawing through the net on a contested touch on Russia that ended the set. Didn'tsee one on instant replay.
Second set highlight appeared to be; as Brazilian hitter approached the net on a tight set against a triple block, one of the Brazilians looked like he pulled the net on the bottom, getting a net call on the Russians. May be wrong as it was very crowded, which of course is the idea. Found myself rooting for the Russians after that old trick. Very hotly contested match; wish this was every day, Brazilians would definetly be down tomorrow, maybe not in 2 days. Brazilian middles are the best serving set of middles in the world, I bet. Musersky, or whatever, is a beast in the middle for Russia.

As to impressions, as I said, the Russian middle Musersky dominated when he was in. Brazil looked fine, using just the one setter, Murillo and Dante flying all over at OH, Vissotto getting good blocking from the right side. I don't know Russia at all and who was and wasn't playing. The Braziians seemed to make their big runs while their middles were serving; other than that, fairly even with Brazil obviously slightly better. Good serving should work against both teams, meaning Stanley and perhaps Anderson.

No Giba sightings? He's retiring after The Games. And yes, good serving and serve receive will be the key. Which means Anderson will be the key. Can he be a second big bomber for us from behind 40 ft? Can he keep us in system consistently? Russia and Brazil put up huge blocks, we have to be able to run the middle.

I don't know the exact number, but Russia must have missed over 8 first serves in the 3rd set alone. Even Barnett agreed that it was ridiculous. When Musersky is front row, you really need to tone it down a bit to allow him the opportunity to block.
It looked like Brazil was in the Russians heads. They argued with each other and looked disorganized.
