Yeah. Ugly loss as well. Looked fine in the first and then just seemed to slowly fall apart.

Boo, I watched the first set and the Americans looked good. Darn.

Damn. This is very disappointing. Not unexpected, to me, that Gibb and Rosie would lose, but I also expected Rogers and Dalhausser to not have exited first!

No putting lipstick on this pig - London was a disaster for the U.S. men. The current number one ranked team in the world (Gibb/Rosie), and the defending gold medalists - including the guy generally considered the best player in the world - can't get it done against the 13 and 17 seeds (respectively)?
Very disappointing, to say the least.

Now that both U.S. teams are out, I'm hoping Rego gets gold again. I've always liked him as a player and he seems to have a great attitude as well. Over the years, he has really shown what an amazing and complete game he has by winning and, at least, finishing consistently strong on both the larger court and the smaller court. AMAZING PLAYER AND ONE OF THE BEST EVER.
For silver, I suppose I wouldn't mind seeing Brink/Reck in the finals. I think they practiced with Phil/Todd earlier this year; just before the season started.
Too bad for both U.S. teams. I am just not sure there are any up and coming players in the U.S. to be a serious threat in 2016, but who knows.
Now it's time to move on and keep pulling for the women.

Have to ask, is the lack of a cohesive domestic tour a factor. I just think it has to be draining travelling so much. Seems when we dominate Internationally, the studs travel less. Just a thought.

I still don't understand the "USA" and "Latvia" designations. It's two people. It's even worse, given the fact we have two teams.
That goes for "Latvia" too.
I suppose I shouldn't complain. Not when they're calling a horse and its rider "Great Britain."

Not when they're calling a horse and its rider "Great Britain." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MetonymyFIVB (along with NORCECA and all the other federations) uses country designations - USA1, USA2, Brazil1 and so on - for all beach competitions. They will also identify teams by their names (Emanuel/Alison). It's kind of an either/or deal. After all, it is a team sport. Plus, it's a hell of a lot easier to type "Latvia" than it is "Plavins/Samoilov." Also, that metonymy thingie.

Have to ask, is the lack of a cohesive domestic tour a factor. I think it's a great point to bring up. I'm really hoping this gets worked out soon. It's a such a great and popular sport but they haven't figured out how to sustain it financially. People would commit to playing at that level if there was something there, numbers have never been an issue. And now I'm just completely confused with what's been going on. Is the NVL the new AVP? Is it a different type of series like the EVP? Is this new AVP that's being worked out going to be a fixture, or is it is some test phase? DOes the NVL oin the AVP or is there going to be now 2 Pro Beach tours? Which one do you watch to see the best American players? Who are the best young American players right now?

Does anyone know if the Olympic qualifying process has to go through FIVB? I wish the AVP could run a tour where they could decide their own qualifying teams to represent their country, like through a series of points or something. The only thing is I'd hope they would adopt FIVB rules and use their volleyball so Americans would not have to make an adjustment when playing International events.

I've never heard an athlete or official ever say a bad word about Emanuel. He's universally liked - almost revered - around the sport. Dude would give you the shirt off his back. Remember in the 2004 Olympics, a Brazilian marathoner was cruising to the gold medal when some crazy defrocked priest came out the crowd and basically attacked him? By the time the runner got disentangled, he had been passed up and (I believe) ended up with the bronze. Emanuel gave the guy his own gold medal, saying the runner deserved the gold more (I think the runner gave it back with thanks). That's Emanuel. That said, I'd like to see Nummerdor/Schuil win it, just to see if they would come to the podium with cigarettes dangling from their mouths. Also, they're really good guys.

Unfortunately, the FIVB decides the qualifying process, having been granted that power by the IOC. Try to go around them or secede from them, and the FIVB will simply ban any American teams from the Olympics. That's not ever going to change.
