Read on a volleyball blog that the FIVB will be testing a scoring change to 21 points instead of 25 with only one technical time out per set instead of two. They'll apparently be testing the scoring system during the upcoming European League tournament. The idea behind the score change is to make the sport more television friendly.

Would be interesting and more TV friendly. Sets would be shorter, but matches could potentially be longer. There could definitely more 3-1 and 3-2 matches than before. This could create more parity in the sport though.

They should just short-cut this long process and make sets go to five points. Surely that would be even more TV friendly.

Still say there's never been a sport where the people running it hated it as much as our sport is apparently hated by the FIVB.
"Hey! I have an idea! Let's play eight innings!"

Here's how I plan to beat any system the FIVB forces on us.
At the beginning of the match, when I meet the officials, I'm gonna slip them a 20 when I shake their hands.

make it more like Basketball (Unlimited Subs, keep the Libero, and 1 time out and 1 Technical)... This way you can use the bench, no use of having 12 to 14 players if only 7 or 8 see the court...JMO

How about 1 point "sets" but play best 25 out of 49? Let's call that a "game"... then make them win 3 "games" to win the match... but that would go long so make the last "game" be best 15 out of 29.
Thoughts?

When I first came back to volleyball, I thought about the impact of having subs free-flow into the game rather than stopping the game so the scorekeeper can track the sub on paper.
5 years later, I still don't understand why we have to take so much time for this task. Then again, I've never been the scorekeeper.
