Mel Gibson. The only director more f***ed up than Eastwood.

The Unforgiven was excellent, although poor WW II history. Just Unforgiven. And yeah, IMO one of the best films ever made. ===== "Well sir, you are a cowardly son of a bitch. You just shot an unarmed man!" "Well, he should have armed himself, if he's gonna decorate his saloon with my friend." ===== "I don't deserve this -- to die like this. I was building a house...." "Deserve's got nothin' to do with it." "I'll see you in Hell, William Munny." "Yeah."

Clint Eastwood-directed films are okay to me, not the greatest things in the world by any stretch of the imagination. They're very serviceable in entertainment value. I even like the Man with No Name series, the ones he starred in and even the ones he directed (Pale Rider, High Plains Drifter). My favorites are:
1. A Perfect World -- I thought this was a near perfect film. Sooooo good. No one ever talks about it. It's also my favorite Kevin Costner film -- and I hate Kevin Costner. I was 29 at the time I saw this film at an actual movie theater. I don't know if I would still consider it good 26 years later in my second viewing though. It's one of those films I'm afraid to watch it again because I might actually hate it because it might actually not be as good as the way I remember it. 2. Unforgiven -- good western. Not my favorite western of all time though. 3. Gran Torino 4. Jersey Boys -- although I think I liked the music more than the film 5. Mystic River -- I can barely remember this film but I remember liking it
I have not seen The Outlaw Josey Wales but I hear it's very good.
My least favorite Eastwood-directed films: 1. Million Dollar Baby 2. Letters from Iwo Jima; Flags of our Fathers
The rest are all good, mediocre, or terrible.

Just watched Alita: Battle Angel. Was skeptical about it as a lot of promo was out there for this film, didn’t know if it was anime or what. Guess it’s based on some Manga out of Japan.
Premise is a doctor finds the head and shoulders of a cyborg in the junkyard and brings it back to his hospital to put it back together, and names her Alita. Turns out that’s what he is, a doctor that fix and replaces parts for cyborgs. And the mechanical body he used was meant for his ailing daughter, named Alita, who was killed in a botch burglary at the hospital. The new Alita has no memory of who or what she is and throughout the film she is rediscovering life, as well as bits and pieces of her past.
I liked this movie. Turned out to be better than I thought. Was surprised to see Christopher Waltz in a lead role as Dr Ido, and thought I saw Edward Norton as the evil Nova. Rosa Salazar played the lead role of Alita, though I have never heard of Rosa nor do I know anything about the original Manga storyline, thought it was well played. Still can’t figure out if Alita the character is all CGI or just digitally enhanced her eyes so it’s much bigger than normal eyes. And there’s Jennifer Connolly as Chiren, Dr Ido’s estranged wife after the death of their daughter Alita. Hate to say it but all I could think of when I saw Jennifer Connolly was how old she looks.

I realized what critics want in a film and what the general audience want are sometimes at odds. If a film entertains me, even if it got bad reviews, then it's done its job for me. The best part about going to movies is just that...go in without knowing any background to the story and see if you enjoy it as is.

An old movie, but never watched it until now: Die Hard 4.0
Not sure why but the Die Hard series doesn't get too old. I mean its the same thing, John McClane shoots up bad guys and so on but its still entertaining to see what he's up against.
For nostalgic sake, I watched Die Hard 3 last week and started up Die Hard 2 last night but fell asleep. Sooner or later I'll have to watch A Good Day To Die Hard.

The Favourite
I cannot stop watching this film. So funny (in an understated way). Olivia Colman is Queen Anne, for which she won Best Actress at the Academy Awards, Rachel Weisz is basically her Chief of Staff, and Emma Stone is a former-lady-turned-scullery-maid-turned-court-helper.

Ant-Man
The wife saw it on her flight and said it was okay. She wants to watch the sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and strongly suggested I get up to speed and watch Ant-Man if I want to watch the sequel with her. Chop chop.
So, I watched it this afternoon.
Funny quote:
Scott Lang/Ant-Man: My days of breaking in places and stealing shiite are over. What do you want me to do? Dr. Hank Pym: I want you to break into a place and steal some shiite.

Watched "Passengers" with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. Thought it was ok. When Jim woke Aurora thought that was a really dick move, but can see why he did it. I probably do the same, but then I would have packed a Sony PS4 or PS5 with me along with some open world games to keep me busy.
