Some vocal "Star War fans" (I have to put them in apostrophes because I seriously question their credibility) have slammed Disney's Star Wars as promoting a SJW agenda instead of good storytelling and that has ruined the franchise for them. I think that is bullsh*t. Disney as Hollywood's largest studio does not care one bit about any SJW agenda, they care about money, as in making lots and lots of money. Personally, my issue with Disney is not with any so-called "SJW" agenda. Its that their Star Wars story don't really connect with me the way Star Wars used to. The new characters just get a "meh" reaction from me, they just aren't memorable the same way as the original characters were. I just don't care about them much. They seem more like just another group of uninteresting random characters thrown together. It says a lot that the best Disney Star Wars film to date, Rogue One, was a side-story rather than the main franchise. Heck, even the prequels, as bad as they are, still had a hook in showing us how Darth Vader became Darth Vader. As for Disney, (SPOILERS)....why killed off Hans Solo only to make a Solo-only movie later on? I think Disney was trying to apply a Marvel Comics approach to Star Wars, but Star Wars don't work quite like that. In their defense, Ford always wanted Solo to die in some glorious way...at least that's what I have read. Only Abrams granted him this wish in TFA. Honestly I would have loved to see where Lucas was going to go with 7-9, if Disney did not follow his storyline. Thought TFA was good in that it introduced the new character with the originals mixed in, though the storyline was kind of a repeat of ANH. But I get what you mean about new characters being Meh. Like Maz Kanata...in TFA she was intriguing in a way and would have liked to know more about her. But her appearance in TLJ was like thrown in there with no value...I think she was fighting off something while Finn was trying to get information from her about the gambler. And I just read a critique from Boyega that he would have liked to see where the new group would have developed a stronger story in TLJ, but Johnson instead kind of scattered them all over the place. And maybe Abrams is trying to right some wrong, reading some of the critique of RoS. Guess there is just so much to tell in such a short time that it may not have made it worse than it should be. Eh, four more hours and I'll find out myself.

The first Star Wars could have been very ordinary. But 1) Han and Chewie were great, 2) Leia avoided all the damsel-in-distress princess stereotypes, 3) Alec Guiness is a fantastic actor, 4) the special effects were so much better than anything else at the time, and 5) Vader (and James Earl Jones).
The second movie was split between Han/Leia's romance story and Luke's jedi training. Accordingly, it was kind of weak. But the Hoth battle and the Vader/Luke fight were high points. Plus it's where we first learned "I am your father".
The third movie had the very strong Jabba sequence where we saw Luke as a full jedi and we got a better sense of why the jedi were so important. The ewok stuff was like candy -- sweet the first time, but got old quickly. Still, we had the final battle with the emperor and the redemption of Vader. The movies earned their legendary status.
I watched The Force Awakens, and in large part it just seemed like basically a clone of the first Star Wars -- only without the really special elements that made that first movie so good.

This is what I don't get with the praise that the critics heaped onto TFA. I mean yeah, it was certainly a watchable and decent movie. But the critics made it sound as if it was so out of this world and I just don't feel it was like that. A good movie sure, but forgive me for being crude and vulgar for one moment, it's like the critics were jacking-off and having an orgasm experience while watching the movie. I mean come on, it wasn't that great. Maybe they got screwed over by the terrible dialogue and Jar Jar Binks in the prequels to such an extent that seeing anything better they would treat as masterpiece. I don't know, I just don't get this euphoric response to TFA from critics and so-called fans.

But in any case, it has to come down to whether it serve a story-telling purpose, and I just don't know what purpose killing off Solo does to TFA. I mean the new characters like Ray, Finn or Poe just aren't all that interesting, I struggled to care about them.

Watched all four Indiana Jones movies this past week. I'd seen 1 and 2 before but a long time ago. All pretty good. The plot of 3 seemed a little fast-paced to me but Sean Connery made up for it. 4 was bad. Ancient aliens is a fun TV show but not good as the plot to a movie.

The second one was very disappointing -- almost a parody of the first one. The third one recovered some of the fun of the first one, but was mainly highlighted by the interaction between Indy and his dad. I never saw the fourth one, which is famous (infamous) for the "Indy survives a nuclear bomb by hiding in a refrigerator" scene. I haven't seen every film by Lucas, but if I had to say which Lucas film was the best, I would probably pick American Graffiti.

Watched Knives Out earlier this week. It was well done. Harkened back to the old time murder mystery movies. Campy and fun.

I’m not a very religious person. Consider myself more of a believer of god than any religion, but I watched the movie breakthrough, and regardless if you’re Christian or not, it was a fantastic movie that made me bawl my eyes out on a plane, which I never cry in movies.
Highly recommend it

So the new trailer for Chris Nolan's new film "Tenet" is out. Now I am not a Nolan "fanboy", I don't think his movies are perfect, sometimes his movies feel a little cold. Still, I do enjoy most of his films and I find them quite watchable with the intricate plots and twist. Tenet seems like another film that involves some mix of genre:
Like other Nolan film trailers, this one is both a head scratcher and intriguing at the same time. Question is, do we have any idea what it is about? Is it about time travel? Espionage? Heist?

I have yet to see: Solo Star Wars: The Last Jedi My motivation is not high. Solo wasn't as bad as they made it out to be in the media...at least not for me. Though I did think Alden Ehrenreich may have tried a bit too hard to play that role, more specifically tried to smile too much to mimic Ford. Plus it was great to see Darth Maul had survived after being cut in half at the end of The Phantom Menace (guess it was all tied to animated series, which I didn't watch). Clone Wars and Rebels were both excellent. And of course, Clone Wars is coming back this Winter I believe on Disney+ for a 7th season.

Guess I’ll get started on this series. There was a commentary that said the prequels should have been what the animated series Clone Wars covered.

John Wick 3
I'll watch it tonight. I really enjoyed the first two installments. The actor who plays the poor bad guy in the first one is none other than Alfie Allen, best known for playing Theon Greyjoy in Game of Thrones. He was so easy to love in GoT and easy to hate in John Wick. LOL!

Clone Wars takes place between Episodes II & III... and Rebels takes place between Episodes III & IV and shows the beginnings of the Rebellion. Hard to say which show I liked better. Watch both 😎
