Getting ready to watch Skylar Fields play for her high school tonight. I think she's glad to be back after her time with Team USA.

Sadly, I read on twitter that although her parents traveled to South America to watch her play, they were unable to return home to Houston for a while due to Hurricane Harvey. I know the two Houston airports were closed for like 10 days, so perhaps that was the issue.

They were stuck there and when they were able to leave they then got stuck in California as well.

O'Neal at #2 on the Senior Ace 2018 Recruit list! Will be interesting to see what happens in 2018 at the middle blocker position. - Morgan Johnson will be a senior - Brionne Butler will be a redshirt freshman - Orie Agbaji will be a junior - Blair Westerlund will be a redshirt sophomore - Asjia O'Neal will be a freshman Bulter and O'Neal ranked as the top MBs in their respective classes by PrepVolleyball. Obviously, there could be some attrition. And, based on the logic for Butler redshirting, one would think that O'Neal could be a strong redshirt candidate, too. Really think we need to add someone to next year's roster who can be a serviceable fourth pin hitter.

If Butler didn't start over Johnson, then I don't think O'Neal will either. Butler was better than O'Neal at this point of her prep career. I assume Butler and Johnson will be the starters.

For this team to have a legit shot they have to improve their passing. The raw talent is impressive.

Skylar's team won in 4 sets tonight. She actually plays for the high school that I graduated from so it's neat to be able to see them compete. This was my first time seeing her play since last year. Her physicality is still so impressive and she can jump out of the gym as I'm sure all of you know. Skylar was a little lethargic during the first set, which happened to be the set that her team lost. She is a six rotation player for a very good high school team and is probably the better passer out of the two outsides (the other is a 2018 committed to UTSA.)
One thing that I noticed tonight is she's not very aggressive on out of system plays and any time the ball is set from behind her she doesn't attack with as much effort. She seemed to settle for tips and roll shots way too often throughout the match. During a routine play, she was able to put the ball down with no problem but any time the libero had to step in to set the ball she just didn't swing aggressively. I think that's really the biggest area that needs improvement for her. She still has a lot of room to grow over the next few years. Her upside is huge and she'll be a fun player to watch while at Texas.
