UT will be in a precarious situation for those '20 and '21 classes the way their position and scholarship distribution will play out. If they add 2 kids to the '20 class including a setter, they might only have 2 scholarships for '21 with no less than 5-6 potential top 20 senior aces in the state for that class. What makes it even harder is that the Woodards are a package deal, so that's two scholarships right there. On one hand, it's nice to have all that local talent. On the other, they have to hope to guess right because some of those girls they dont choose will probably end up 1st team All-Americans elsewhere. Why are the Woodards a packaged deal? Separation anxiety.

If Texas doesn't get Ally Batenhorst they will have let one of the best in 2021 get away.

Guess it all depends on if she likes Texas, gets an offer, and wants to come. I have no idea if any of those are true at the moment.

Would love to have Ally join Texas! UT will be in a precarious situation for those '20 and '21 classes the way their position and scholarship distribution will play out. If they add 2 kids to the '20 class including a setter, they might only have 2 scholarships for '21 with no less than 5-6 potential top 20 senior aces in the state for that class. On the other, they have to hope to guess right because some of those girls they dont choose will probably end up 1st team All-Americans elsewhere. The recruiting foundation in which UT-Austin sits really is incredibly impressive. West Texas has arguably the best concentration of top talent per square mile and UT-Austin is pretty much the only program within 500 miles that has been a consistent top 25 team in the last decade or so. As much of a national recruiting power Elliot has turned Texas into, the REGIONAL hegemony of UT-Austin (or rather the crappiness of most of the Big 12 and SEC teams) for Elliot to hand pick the state's top talent to build a strong foundation is second to none. How many recruits from Texas have had an offer on the table from UT-Austin, and choose a different program? King? Nwanebu (though she transfered back anyway), I think Shaw and Gehan had schollie offers from Texas too...anyway, it's just impressive, or incredibly lucky, at the very least.

There will always be elite players in the state of Texas who we don't offer, or who choose schools other than Texas. Nothing new. Looking forward: 2017: S - Ashley Shook (Plainfield, IL) L/DS - Olivia Zelon (Santa Monica, CA) OH - Lexi Sun (Solana Beach, CA) 2018: MB - Brionne Butler (Kendleton, TX) MB - Asjia O'Neal (Southlake, TX) L/DS - Sydney Petersen (IA) S - Jhenna Gabriel (Honolulu, HI) 2019: MB - Molly Phillips (Mansfield, TX) OH - Logan Eggleston (Brentwood, TN) OH - Skylar Fields (Missouri City, TX) 2020: S - Naomi Cabello (Clermont, FL) MB/OH - Madison Williams (Mansfield, TX) I'd say we will take one more for 2020 (might already be in the bag according to bball). Then, for 2021, we'll have at least 3 spots available. Butler is a 2017. Do you not know she’s on the team right now? Lol

She's currently the top go to hitter on a Texas 6A UIL State Final four team as a 6 rotation player. And she's a freshman.

Edited class years thanks to ay.

Texas has convinced top 10 players to ride the pine before. Keep in mind that she'll also be behind Ndiaye assuming Iman chooses UT, which I think she will. Batenhorst will have to decide if she wants to sit for two years.

Here is some video of Batenhorst this past spring. not incredibly explosive athletically, but given her age and height, she moves pretty well. Her arm isn't impressive, yet.... again, keep in mind that she's in 8th grade here (*and these are just clips*)

Not much of an arm, yet.... again, keep in mind that she's in 8th grade here (*and these are just clips*) I watched her play vs. Skylar in an earlier round match and she outplayed her. Ally has better passing skills and more shots than Skylar. Skylar can be taken out of her game by attacking her serve receive. Whereas Ally gets better with more serve receive opportunities during a match.

Personally, I think there are some better future hitting prospects than Fields even in Texas. I'm sure Batenhorst will end up very good. Again, I can recognize that she's still very young. Re passing, I think with all the subs we have at the collegiate level, teams don't really need two passing 6 rotation OH's to win championships.
