I know USC continues to struggle but I haven't looked at the box scores or made it out to any of their matches even though I live only 40 minutes away. How is the team's prized recruit doing this year? Is he getting any minutes? Is he dominating? Is he holding his own or does he have a long ways to go?

It's hard for freshmen to see playing time. It is very special when they do. I didn't see him get in last night. I'm sure he'll get his opportunities. He's a bulldog.

Otte did play against CSUN and he played well. He probably will get more time next year. The kid is a workaholic so he's bound to get his time to shine, as long as he stays injury-free.

I think the coach should start looking toward next year and start giving the younger players experience because the seniors and older players aren't getting it done for them. I saw them play and they arte very -very bad

How's Jeff Bailey, Middle Blocker doing? I heard he's getting plenty of playing time. At last year's Hawaii/USC match, you could hear us screaming "What want JB!". Powers wouldn't listen, well appears this year the new coach has. Go JB.

Calivball, have you played on Derek Otte's team before, because it is obvious to most that you haven't. Instead of saying something like that about someone that you don't know, gather the right facts first. Ask some of the people he has played with for the past couple of years. I bet that they will tell you the real deal, but until then don't go around badmouthing people just because you can't hack it at the sport.

guest, instead of trying to put other people down, know what you're talking about. i played on otte's team for a year and all he did was bitch and moan. he bitches about playing time, bitches to the setters he's not getting his stats. of course if you played on his high school team he is fine because he gets everythig he wants. when someone is better than him and he's not gettin to play, he's a whiny little brat, just like i said. and if i cant hack it at the sport, why am i on a division 1 team and you're just a spectator. i guarantee you i'll be on the court when we play usc this season, will you? until you are, stop believing all the hype surrounding people and listen to something you might not want to hear. otte is on the bench for a reason, he's sitting on the bench on a non-top 15 team, how good could he be huh?

Calivball, your opinion is a harsh one, but i'm sure some people might agree with you. I'm asuming that you were on the LAAC team his Junior year then, because that was the only time he didn't play. But they didn't win that year and had the most tallent, but maybe not the heart. David Russel, J.T. Gilmour and Derek Otte all benched on the team in JO's. Maybe Derek did complain about playing time, but maybe it was just since they wouldn't have gotten that far without him. If you are right about Derek Otte, then why not share your name with the world and we can see how you size up. Think of it this way if you have never been on the bench in how many years has he been playing volleyball, I think around 6or7 years, and you get benched the one year that matters most in being recruited, wouldn't anyone be furious?

guest, yes, i might be furious that i was benched during that season, but i also know that team is more important than me. i might have bitched, but if you play for a prominent club team, you will be seen no matter what. you can try to put us down (you're right about LAAC), but you also have to realize that Derek didn't start for us for a reason, we wouldn't have gotten as far as we did if he had been playing. we did have the most talent, but we were all young too. we were all 11th graders pretty much. russell and gilmour deserved to be benched, look at who started over them, delano thomas and pat nihipali over russell and kowalski over gilmour. there were reasons paul started who he did, we were better than the people on the bench.

It shouldn't matter if you are on a Top 15 team or a Bottom 15 team. The teams in the MPSF are so stacked and so close together that such labeling is meaningless. Otte isn't starting because I assume he needs time to adjust to his team's off/def schemes and the faster pace of the college game. Every freshman should get that time.
