Qualifiers ALWAYS look like that and what they televise is not always where the fans are (I RARELY go into Center court till the semi/finals). I'll be watching on CBS VBG and if those stands are packed (they WILL be), we'll wait for your retort! ; - ) Ill show you pics from years past with packed outer courts in MANHATTAN.. hello its Caliy! Things I have learned in the last two weeks of AVP action:
Todd doesn't have the physical ability to compete at the top level anymore. This means jump and quickness on defense.
The AVP should do anything and everything to keep Matt Fuerbringer from retiring.
Gibb and Casey play worse in America
Brunner is going to be a star, Bourne is a couple years away.
April Ross needs to stop thinking she owes Jen Kessey something and start playing with Kerri Walsh. Loyalty is nice, but it cost her 8,000 dollars or so this weekend and every tournament they play apart, April is losing money.
A lot of the AVP guys spent the tour free years eating (Prosser, Aaron for example)

Not running down all those on two hits in that one match was un-excusable.

Agree with guest2 on all accounts. Very very impressed with Brunner.

Not running down all those on two hits in that one match was un-excusable. Its annoying but I don't know if I would say inexcusable. It has to be frustrating for a former world number 1 to be struggling to beat Adam Roberts, who is as determined a player as you will ever meet, but is basically a lifelong qualifier. Hard not to be frustrated with a partner who passes as badly and sets over as much as his was there too. Of all the players I have seen the last two weeks, Andrei Belov is the one who would benefit the most if they switched to old school rules (or maybe Lucena). That serve is deadly

Does anyone know what Brunner's indoor pedigree is? And did his success make anyone else think how destructive Matt Anderson would be on the beach?
Is there even a conversion time for big guys anymore?

Other thoughts on MB.
I liked the set-up without the bleachers and most people I talked to did too. Will be interesting to see how it looks on t.v. If you can't charge for MB, then reduce your operating costs and go for the simple set-up.
Crowd should have been bigger. Weather was a factor for sure, but I think the marketing of the event was weak (I assume because AVP wasn't putting their full effort into it and let IMG do it).
Brooke Sweat is fun to watch. 20 years ago I would have been in full agreement with VBG on the gals. But with the short court and how much better the woman have become, I enjoy it quite a bit now.
Amazed at how well Casey was playing - looks to be in great shape.
The announcer they've got working the event is not worthy of wiping the sweat off of Geeter's mic.
