Here are things you should know about Sun: 1. She has great parents who will guide her well 2. She is always smiling 3. She hits other worldy angles 4. She already jump touches 10-5 and blocks with head above the net 5. She has lots to do to refine her game and the work ethic to do it.

Most players who are achieving at a high level athletically and making unofficial college visits as 14 and 15 year olds, are exploring the idea and reality of college volleyball. There are many 8th and 9th grade non student athletes making similar college visits. I happen to think that the NCAA ought to make verbal offers and commitments in some way a binding agreement. For many student athletes a college scholarship enables them the ability to get a college education. This is rarely mentioned on these talk boards. What if someone verbally commits but decides that college is not the best for them? Maybe they want to be closer to home? Or they get a better offer somewhere else?

verbals are not binding- either way coach to athlete or athlete to coach. Either party can change their mind.

One of the best volleyball player I have seen of her age. And she will only get better. I don't see how you can possibly make that statement in any definitive manner.

Longtime reader of volleytalk, 1st time poster. There seems to be a good sense of humor from many of the posters!
Anyway, I have coached SCVA boys and girls club and for over 16 years and high school since the mid 90's. About a year and half ago I thought to myself I haven't seen someone better than her at that age. This includes players who went on to be college all-americans and college POY. My team was in 14's that year(I think Sun was in the 7th grade) and played Coast multiple times in the season. Just my opinion, and I don't how anyone can prove on opinion (in reference to the " I don't see how you can possibly make that statement in any definitive manner." statement). I hope she will remain "enthused" about playing and not get burned out or take too many swings too early.

Ill admit in my first couple post I said things like "best freshman the last ten years" etc. I think that mainly came from just seeing her play. She has ALL the qualities of a good volleyball player, and has THREE years to improve. Hopefully she can stay on the right track, not get injured. It will be a blood bath to recruit her though

Having seen her in HS this year, her serve-receive skills better take a big jump forward, or she will be exposed at the NCAA level. Fun to watch her swing away.

I heard Lexi took a visit to Hawaii along with a few previously mentioned schools. Could you imagine the celebrity status she would get out in Hawaii if she was there! Not quite the same thing as if she went to USC...

Watching the Florida State at Duke men's basketball game. Saw Marshall Plumlee make some nice plays and thought of his sister, Maddie. Many on VT said, after seeing her play at 14s, she'd be the next big thing. Maddie looks like a happy kid with the parental guidance, work ethic, desire to stay on the path of excellence. Haven't heard much about her again, except that she's heading to Notre Dame in the Fall. Maybe not the Toast of VT, but sounds like a good future ahead!

And how is this related to LEXI SUN? The point, I believe, is that being a great player at 14 does not guarantee being a great player at 19. Lindsay Yamasaki just tore it up as a 14 year old, but ended up on a BB scholarship at Stanford. She did play VB as well, but she did not exactly tear it up.

Never heard of her, but I doubt that she is as good as Lexi Sun was as an 8th grader.. the only two players that I could remember being hyped up as an HS frosh was Sun and Fonoimoana.
