What's more, Rich Miano, a former UH player and coach, has been named color analyst for OC Sports' telecasts of UH football games. Dick Tomey, who served that role last year, has a scheduling conflict that will limit him to a commentary position for at least two telecasts. "I'm extremely excited about the opportunity," said Miano, who played 11 NFL seasons, coached at UH for 13 years, and then as Kaiser High's head coach, led his alma mater to the state's 2013 Division II title. This past April, Miano resigned at Kaiser to become the safety manager for Hawaii Stevedores. Wow. Imagine that. A former Hawaii high school and UH football player gets a cush high-paying job with the Stevodores.

Wahine volleyball broadcasting is in great hands. Kanoa will do a great job! There is really no other choice that would have been acceptable. I for one will be looking forward to having Kanoa do the Wahine games. He does a fantastic job on the radio broadcasts.

i've only heard kanoa do play-by-play a few times. some similarities to his dad (in energy level and tone), but overall his own style (i think kanoa is more analytical, and understands the game of volleyball better).
i'm looking forward to it!
we're definitely in that period where the transition from "old guard" to "new guard" is becoming very real ... in all aspects of wahine volleyball ... broadcasting (the leaheys switching off), reporting (long-time reporter, ann miller's recent retirement) ... and of course coaching (40 years for shoji, with retirement imminently approaching) ...

Pretty given that Taylor, Magill, Adolpho and Higgins will start. Greeley could nab a spot but I see Shoji still starting Olevao, at least early on. Sarah Mendoza also given, either as libero or defensive specialist. Opposite is interesting. And Long. Might be the year she breaks out.

Majority of the girls will be competing for that rightside spot. I agree with you on Taylor and Olevao. I'm anxious to see what the other players bring to the table....especially Greeley and Passi.

Looking into the upcoming season, this team is going to be relatively quiet. The seven seniors were pretty key to the energy of the team. Longo was extremely vocal, Hartong was calm but a leader, Uiato was focused and encouraging, and Kastl brought energy to the court.
The upperclassmen this season are (Seniors): Adolpho and Mendoza, (Juniors): Manu-Olevau, Magill, Long, Passi. I would like to see Adolpho step up in the vocal department since she has probably the most experience on the court collegiately. The rest of them are pretty quiet.
Taylor and Higgins have the potential to be the leaders next season. I see Koelsch also as a vocal person on the court as well.

I thought Manu-Olevau was out on her mission.

Higgins and Taylor are going to be the vocal leaders on the court. Both of them are outgoing and vocal. Last season because they were first year players and Higgins was on the court only a few times a set, they appeared to be quiet with seniors Hartong and Longo taking the lead. That will change starting this season. Taylor Higgins was orchestrating the cheers and rhythmical clapping on the sidelines and Nikki Taylor from what I saw got all vocal and charged up when making a play. With the departure of the seniors they know that they will be the key leaders on the court. Both of them are not quiet and reserved at all, both of them will take charge on the court.

Your lineup makes sense. I can see Greeley getting into the action early on. Might even edge out Olevao or Passi. I still see Long play more back row than front, which could mean both Guinasso and Anderson will redshirt. One of Maglio and Huff is also a redshirt possibility.
