Interesting choice for Pepperdine to post this on a Saturday morning (but then again we also had a holiday in the middle of the week). Pepperdine will have a lot of recruiting tools now with Tanner and a new facility in the fundraising stages. Well if a new facility is in the fundraising phase, your lookin at a minimum of 4 years probably. I also have to say for an overwhelming majority of hs volleyball players, they have zero idea who Troy Tanner is. I do think he is the right fit.

I think this is a great hire, and would be shocked if Bailey doesn't transfer to play for dad, heck maybe some other tstreet players will be transferring too. Pepperdine will be very good soon.

Pepperdine has never hurt for good players - they have always had top recruiting classes. I think this is a great hire and I agree they will become very good very soon.

Just curious as to why people think this is a great hire?

Just curious as to why people think this is a great hire? His club has very quickly become an elite one, he coached Misty and Kerri to gold, and has been successful everywhere he's been. Plus, I think a lot of people are thinking there will be a pipeline from T street to Malibu, which will give him elite talent quickly. Re: Bailey Tanner: Anything being said is speculation, but it's natural to think that has been mentioned by someone in the Tanner home this holiday season.

For Olivia Okoro, it will be her 4th coach in 4 years

Totally agree. I am sure Troy will call players at other schools to get them to transfer. His club has set precedent such as this in the past.

and there goes Washington's successful T-Street pipeline....will have to go after those stud so-cal recruits a bit harder from now on. I don't think that former T-Street players will suddenly transfer to Pepperdine unless they do so for beach volleyball reasons. T-Street players are heading to some premier programs, namely Washington, PSU, Stanford is rumored to be getting Hodson (probably the #1 recruit in the 2015 class). Players, and more importantly their parents, aren't going to be swayed from more experienced coaching, better resources, and a better volleyball outlook (Pac-12, Big 10 etc) just to re-live the glory days high school.

I honestly can't imagine players WANTING to spend their college years under the watchful eyes of the parents. It's one thing to be close to home, it's another entirely to see dad everyday, him knowing everytime you skip a class, anytime you kiss a boy or go to a party. Players are free to do what they want, but I always looked back at Lauren Cook and thought that she had some pretty big daddy issues, "event planning" be damned. I'd have to have some pretty big compelling reasons to want to spend my college years with my parents around. hopefully whatever transpires with Bailey, she does it for herself and what is actually best for her...not to make her dad happy

I completely agree. Lauren Cook did play for her dad, but John Cook doesn't have the player resume that Troy Tanner has. Does Bailey really want to go to the school where her dad was an All American, won a national title, and is now the head coach? That's a lot to live up to. I'm a bit surprised by the sudden reactions that people think Bailey would transfer to Pepperdine. Personally, I wouldn't want to play for one of my parents and it would create a scenario that would make Pepperdine the last school I would choose.

Most would only scratch the school off their list if Only they played in the same position.

WTF are you talking about, what would you be basing that on? This isn't even opinion, its nonsense. Why would you think that or say that, given you don't know anything about either of the two people? Random 5th rate psycho-babble. Truth be told, she didn't transfer out of UCLA because of event planning, she transferred out because she grew up around a program where volleyball was celebrated, supported, and important to the school, community. She grew up around it being done right. While at UCLA she didn't see any of that, people were casual about vb, indifferent etc....... she wanted to be a part of something special. Her dad was not the draw believe me, she knew that would be hard, and her dad, didn't encourage her to come back either. "some daddy issues" is just a really stupid thing to say for someone who knows literally nothing about the situation or the two people he is commenting on. I mean come on, voice your opinion about volleyball, teams, matches, not inter-personal feelings of people you know nothing about. Its like me saying UW struggled vs PSU because a player wasn't nursed. Idiotic.

My speculation goes in the opposite direction of most people on this thread. I doubt Bailey transfers. She has bonded with her college teammates, made new friends, and is familiar with the campus. At Pepperdine she won't know most of the players. There could be the question among Pepperdine players whether her playing time is based on merit or being the coach's daughter. Why would she want to put up with that possibility?
Most 15 and 16 year old kids know essentially zero about the history of the sport. If you were to ask them to name one player on the last men's Olympic team, they wouldn't have a clue. I doubt Troy's past will be much of a factor in recruiting. To these kids Troy will be another middle-aged guy competing with all the other established DI coaches to recruit them. Troy always seemed like a nice guy coaching his club teams at tournaments. I wish him the best on his new job. He will have to prove he can coach at the DI level as a head coach.
