The other "Bingos" were on the website under the Twitter section. Ah, I see. That's the feed from the Wisconsin Volleyball Twitter account. In order for it to show up there, that account has to re-tweet it. Whoever's running the account probably just hasn't gotten around to it yet.

I don't know who the new Bingo is, but it's great to see Sheffield doing so well with recruiting. It's interesting to compare this time in the program's history to that of 2000 when they were also National runner ups. I remember Waite saying that they were altering their recruiting efforts to go after some players they wouldn't normally recruit. The example was Ogonna Nnamani. From what I heard, the recruiting came down to Stanford and Wisconsin and she choose Stanford. It didn't seem like we were able to use the 2000 NCAA run to bolster recruiting. Conversely, it does appear that Sheffield is able to use the exposure the program got last year to the benefit of recruiting. That's exciting not only for next year, but the next several years.

This was pretty funny. Highlights: Morey is "playing with a lot of moxie right now." Courtney is getting a lot better "but she probably thinks that she's a lot worse than she was in December." Ellen has been getting a lot more aggressive over the past two weeks. Lauren is going to be one of the team captains for the fall. Apparently Ellen was thinking about trying out for the track team when Sheff, et al, came to town. Instead, she became an AA HM. When asked how they got her to change her mindset, Sheffield replied with a completely straight face, "We threatened violence," and talked earnestly for a minute about how he's always thought that to be the best motivator. What a goof.

Pete Waite wasn't exactly charismatic. Nice guy, but he'd never be a recruiting powerhouse. I haven't met Sheff, but just based on his interviews, twitter, demeanor, I can see how that would be more attractive to many young women (in the most above the board way possible).

While I think Sheffield's personality is obviously translating into effective recruiting (I bet Britt is great too), I also think that Waite's greatest skill as a coach was recruiting. He got very talented kids on that campus, including Carlini.

Maybe Pete wasn't aggressive enough because a lot of talent slipped through his hands. I don't know the stories behind him losing top talent (Simone Lee, Haggerty, etc...). He lucked into Carlini, in all honesty. She liked UW and there was another player there named Carlini (Maria).

No program is promoting itself better right now than Wisconsin. Pete Waite was never going to be confused for a carnival man. Maybe that is what it takes in today's era of college athletics. As long as 15-year-olds are the target, self-promotion just might work - at least for a while...

A good recruiter doesn't only recruit those kids for whom your school is on their radar. Lots of talent in and around WI that we missed out on. MN, IL, MSU and MI ascent and WI's descent weren't coincidental. There was a distinct shift after Dolgner left hobbling out. Our classes weren't as strong....didn't have the top 10 recruiting classes again until recently. Yeah, Pete didn't seem to get the most of his players, but I also think we missed some top talent within 150 miles.

Carlini would like to relax, too, but she knows she’ll have to stay on her toes while playing alongside the likes of veteran Olympians such as Logan Tom. “She’s played in like four Olympics and I’ve heard that if you’re not doing well, she’s going to say it to you,” Carlini said.I like that comment about Tom. She sounds really tough in a good way. Does the comment also imply that Tom will be competing w/ the team this summer? I hope LC makes a push for Rio. She might not be able to beat out the vets, but I'd like to see her try her best and not downplay her chances. Also would it be so bad for Wisconsin for her to redshirt 2015? I admit, I'm not following the team as closely as others, but seems like your best group of players are rising seniors. Then after that it will be w/ the underclassmen and incoming preps.

The Team USA tournaments that would interfere with Wisconsin's schedule would be the World Championships this year (Sep 23 - Oct 12), and NORCECAs and the World Cup next fall, but that's only if she makes it that far. I don't think the WGP interferes at all (Group 1 finishes on Aug 24 or something). Normally, I wouldn't think a prospective player would need to redshirt (Tom didn't), but a setter is different I'd think.

Here's the full transcript of Sheffield's presser today. www.uwbadgers.com/sports/w-volley/spec-rel/042114aaa.htmlAs for LC, I hope she makes a push for Rio, too. I really don't expect anything less of her. If she doesn't make it this time around, it will not be because she didn't try hard enough. I think it would be a big challenge for Wisconsin to have her redshirt for 2015. At the moment, the only continuity we'll have from the team that made the national championships to there are LC, Blake, Nelson, Morey, and Fricano & Ito (who were red-shirting). If LC redshirts 2015, then freshman Hannah Juley will be our starting setter. I'm sure she's capable, but we'd have a freshman setter feeding freshman hitters, so that shakes things up a bit. The reason I'm not apoplectic about 2015 is that we'll have experienced middles, a seasoned libero, and an all-star setter. That being said, we'll jump off that bridge when we get there. And LC, if you do play in Rio, Rainbowspouse and I will do our best to be there to cheer you on.

Based on what Coach Sheffield said in his press conference, it would seem very likely we will see a couple of transfers yet this spring. Perhaps that is why we are seeing a new "Bingo".

Are you making that inference based off of this line in the transcript? "Recruiting, coaching staff is going hard and trying to bring some great recruits in and some more bodies, try to develop a little bit more depth."I would love for it to be a transfer. That would be a lot of fun, having someone else to look forward to in the fall. I like watching the freshman develop, and I'm looking forward to Bates, but I also like watching transfers, the way they come in with more of an established skill set, and watching them integrate into the team.
