So, I guess we can get back to wildly speculating on potential lineups to start the season, since the lack of a scrimmage kept us from getting any clues. I am guessing they will start with the same lineup they ended last year with, other than Morey replacing Hickey at libero and maybe Bates for Chapman in the back row after she serves. They also may go with Thomas as a passer after shielding her for the most part last season. I don't think they will push it with Kriskova, although I don't think she looked all that far away on Saturday, so I would guess it may not be next weekend that we see her available unless she is fully ready to go.

Sheffield was on the Monday press conference today, which (sadly) was not live-streamed. I'm sure they'll put a full transcript up in a bit. Some takeaways from Twitter: - Lauren is a really good player but she can get better. She's healthier than she was last year. She's working on reading the game better. She's very coachable.
- The offense will be quicker this year.
- They'll probably pass with three and have at least one front-row player passing.

...sure. Hey, that's Sheffield talking. But I think LC herself would say that she has a lot of work to do before she is ready to start for the National team. There's an article about her summer experience in the 8/21/2014 edition of Varsity magazine that discusses the subject. I can't figure out how to link it from here because they moved to a new mobile app format, and I can't find a browser version. But if you want to read it, you can download the Varsity app and take a look at it.

I guess I need to go all 21st century. My nook tablet doesn't access Google Play, thus, no Varsity App, thus no Varsity (and of course volleyball is on the cover for the first time!!). If I had known that at the time I would have not gotten it. Time to move up to I-Pad, where I should have gone in the first place. But yes, Sheffield has made it clear on a few occasions, including earlier this week, that by National Team standards, she has work to do. She's only 19, so I'm not sure why this would come as a surprise to some(one). No different than Heisman trophy winners adjusting to the NFL. Mind you, I'm not suggesting she's going to flame out - merely, that they are two different arenas.

In many respects, this is a very similar career arc to John Dunning. Hopefully it leads to the same successes. Speaking of Ball State (from the article), here's a trivia question in advance of the HotelRed Invitational September 12: What was the former mascot/nickname of Ball State? Let's see if the BSU alum on the board can come up with that. It's pretty ancient history. Or, 5 seconds on google.

In addition to Varsity Magazine, Wisconsin Athletics will now be producing digital game programs for football (home and away), volleyball, men's hockey and men's and women's basketball games. Printed game programs will no longer be available, but a roster card with stats, home and visitor rosters, notes and a short player feature will be available for purchase for $2 at concessions stands and Bucky's Locker Room locations.www.uwbadgers.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/082114aaa.html

Sheffield press conference: "There's some players that have some anger management issues right now after last year." *SNORT* Here's another one: KT gives us a recap of the Fan Fest.

Those were some mighty teams.
