As Theis has been announced as Marquette coach, who are the top candidates to fill the MAC's best job? How about UM's Virtue or Louisville's Lee Maes?

The logical choice for me would be Meghan Keck if she doesn't follow Theis to Marquette. She's been his top assistant for 6 years-if she were to take over a program now would be the time. Plus, it would help with the transition and keep some of the recruits still on board. I could also see a B1G assistant (Hinterstocker?) step in and take over.

If the University of Chicago H.C. spot is still open, I could see her considering that. She's from the Chicago area so she would be going back home.

All I know at this point is whoever comes in has big shoes to fill from Theis. Marquette gained a talented volleyball mind that will be very successful competing in the Big East conference and even moreso in the midwest than previous years with Bond. Not saying that Bond did not do a great job at Marquette, his team was fantastic this season, but the potential Theis has with the group he is walking into has a definite upside.

While I agree Keck is a legit coach I don't see her being the leader that OU needs moving forward.

Where's Brian Heffernan?
I'd love to see him end up there. Great place for that family, imho.

Theis didn't live up to his last predecessor...why would he be able to buck that trend?

Theis didn't live up to his last predecessor...why would he be able to buck that trend? How do you figure he didn't live up to his last predecessor? Theis did very well during his tenure at OU. However, in 5 seasons, Carlston went 78-2 in the MAC, winning the conference every season. He also made a sweet 16. Theis was 79-17 in the MAC and missed the tournament in 2011 and 2012.

Yes, SUCH a disappointment at OU....seriously, get a life. Are you saying Theis was a failure, or what?

Mae's was mentioned at the top but I am not sure what he brings to the table after an unsuccessful stint at UVA. Virtue is unproven as a head coach but certainly has done well with recruiting and training at several stops. One would think Affolder should be able to get a head coach job after Dayton (his record wasn't that bad at 16-13) but heard he may be heading South for an assistant gig. Mike Gawlik has obviously been looking around being a finalist at FGCU and Tulsa. He may be a good option as well.

I certainly understand how that could be confusing. Yes, but these SELECTIVE facts do not tell the whole story, which is a story of a program that took time to transition from Carlston to Theis. When Ryan came in he lost one key player to academic ineligibility and another fine recruit (Hockaday) de-committed. Had those two things not happened, we would be comparing apples to apples and they both would be quite shiny. It took a couple of years for Ryan to get his players in, but I believe the last two years (and what is to come in the next couple of years if the next coach handles things correctly) clearly show what Theis is capable of doing. Look at the WHOLE picture, not just the parts that support your contention.

Because everything was perfect when Geoff got to ohio? Please. Transition is almost always tough. Harder when there is a firing usually...
