Also, a lot of TV shows haven't figured themselves out yet early in the game. As the episodes fly by, the show slowly starts to take shape and finally realizes its potential, see, e.g., Seinfeld, The West Wing, Stargate SG1, Buffy the Vampire Hunter. I read a critic's review of the new Catch 22 mini-series on Hulu. He said that he was glad that he stuck it out through the first two episodes because the final four were excellent. Have not seen it yet. Interesting comment. I've made it through half of the 2nd episode. I guess I'll stick it out through episode 3, at least.

The Shannara Chronicles (2 seasons)
Finally done. What a stupid ass show. The only things I liked about were: (1) scenery, and (2) high production values. Otherwise, this fictional world is populated by a bunch of idiots. Or the writers were idiots. Everybody is bloody stupid. Very frustrating to watch stupid behavior.

I am watching the miniseries Chernobyl on HBO. Really heavy and intense stuff given the subject-matter. But pretty watchable as well. Interestingly, the writers on the series previously wrote comedies, now he decided to try gripping drama based on the real-life event, whoa, talk about a change in genre.

"yeah, I want you to go look at that nuclear reactor that just blew up with only a paper suit for protection" It goes to show the great lack of care and awareness of the danger during the Chernobyl catastrophe. Workers were sent to clean-up without adequate protective clothing.

You remind me of the stereotypical rich uncle whom everyone tries to please because they stand to inherit $$$ from him but everyone is unsuccessful because he's so old and grumpy. I don't know how to please you, man! You don't like anything! I give up. LOL. Don't worry, you weren't going to inherit anything from me anyway. I like lots of entertainment but am definitely, um, particular. Think of me more like the Mikey character on the old Life cereal ads (maybe you are too young to remember those). Great! How much is coming my way?

So apart from the Shannara Chronicles, any other TV series you do not recommend I see? As in a waste of time?

Has anyone been paying any attention to Jeopardy! for the last month or so?* The current champion (James Holzhauer) is on a 23-game winning streak, and he's completely dominating the game. I don't typically watch Jeopardy, but I became intrigued several weeks ago when I heard he broke the single-day record. Since then, he's broken it again and again and again... At present, he holds the top 13 single-day scores and his daily average ($77,401) is higher than the previous record ($77,000). He's amassed nearly $1.8 million in "just" 23 episodes. We've started recording it because you can watch a show in about 20 minutes if you skip the ads and intros. My kids love it. Some find it boring because it's not really terribly competitive (although he will eventually lose -- and came within about $20 of losing once), but at this point we find it interesting watching him compete against himself and wondering how high he can go. As I mentioned, the previous one-day record was $77k. Holzhauer reset the standard with $131k, and has topped $100k five times. *Excluding the past two weeks which was the annual Teachers Tournament. The shows are filmed months before they air. I was surprised to find out that they don't have their studio audience sign anything relating to confidentiality. The participants have to sign NDAs that say they they don't get any of the money if they reveal who won before the show airs. But for the audience they just ask them to keep it a secret and rely on them to not give out the results of the show.
