Yellowstone starts season 2 this week on Wednesday on the Paramount TV network. Season 1 is available on On Demamd and can also be watched for free on their website www.paramountnetwork.com. Sort of a modern day Western with Kevin Costner.

Has anyone watched the Order or umbrella academy? Are they any good. Also looking to get into Lucifer and wondering if its worth it. I’ve watched all. They are fine. I think the order is more high schoolish and didn’t finish umbrella academy but love Lucifer. Tom Ellis makes that show. If u like stuff based off true events the Chernobyl miniseries is pretty good. Me personally I’ve gone back and started rewatching BIg Bang Theory till something catches my eyes

Jack Ryan (s1)
Now watching. John Krasinsky of The Office fame plays Tom Clancy's best known character. First episode was not bad. Not great either. I hate it when military guys or cops on TV shows carry out really lax security measures. Everyone and their grandmothers can see what's coming.

He's got a beautiful wife who also happens to be a wealthy and famous doctor. He saves the life of the Prince and Princess of Wales, and then later has them over to his house for a BBQ where he saves their lives again. He is the lead guy on a successful effort to capture a Soviet nuclear sub. He pretty nearly single-handedly wipes out a drug cartel. And that's not enough, he also becomes President of the USA. All the same guy.

Jack Ryan (s1)
Done. I don't think John Kraskinski makes a good Jack Ryan. I keep seeing him as Jim Halpert from The Office.

All the same guy. I have a hunch Tom Clancy created Jack Ryan, maybe a bit from himself and also for the target reader he had in mind, so his readers can live vicariously through Ryan and his adventures. Maybe his CIA job was rather unusual, but otherwise his background, social class and education were all something that the reader can relate to. Speaking of Clancy novels, I prefer his earlier novels like the Hunt of the Red October, Patriot Games, Cardinal of the Kremlin, Red Storm Rising and the Sum of All Fears. After Without Remorse, I find Clancy's novels taking a dip in quality after that. A problem of his techno-thrillers, especially his later novels, is that Clancy's fascination with military technology surpass his interest in story-telling.

I never read a single Tom Clancy novel, although I do own a hardback copy of The Hunt for Red October.

Mr. Mercedes
Now watching. Very slow pacing and lots of sick mother-son encounters.

True, but I felt his later novels (the ones he actually wrote and not just using his name as a brand) were poor compare to his earlier ones. He goes into great detail about the particular military technology, whether its US navy ships, Soviet invasion plans against Europe, Israeli fighter planes or some spy gadget. I had no issue with that so long as it helps to tell the story, that is part of his appeal after all. And no doubt he did his research to ensure the accuracy was there. But later on, I felt those stuff just bogged down the story with unnecessary details without really advancing the story. And it really didn't help that a lot of his later novels had really thin plots and cardboard characters that is just an excuse for telling us how such-and-such piece of US military hardware works.

Mr. Mercedes Now watching. Very slow pacing and lots of sick mother-son encounters. Yes...a pretty dark series. They had a second season but have not watched it and not sure that I ever will. Watched an episode of Tales of the City on Netflix. Wife did not like it and I found it a bit of a tough watch. Just watched the first episode of The Good Fight. Seems like a good continuation of the The Good Wife so far.

Just finished Chernobyl. Really well done. Not sure how much was Hollywoodized. Makes me want to research more.
