They never got to 1986 with The Americans, did they? I don't recall Chernobyl ever being mentioned.
Edit: I guess it ended in 1987, so that is an odd omission.

I watched PBS Newshour this evening and there was a short feature about how tourism in Chernobyl has gone up, mostly because of the HBO miniseries.

It's supposed to be beautiful. The area, that is. Then there's a ghoulish fascination with the ghost "town".
Just wear a lead suit.

Catherine O'Hara's much more than that. Did you ever watch SCTV? Or any of the mocumentaries those people made like Best in Show? No, but I need to. She is so funny. I did see Best In Show. Was she in that?

From the PBS Newshour, one Chernobyl tour guide's warning to her tour bus passengers (in a thick Russian accent):
"If you decide one minute to roll on the grass, on the ground, or hug trees, bushes, or wild animals, well maybe there is a chance to contamination. But if you do not do these stupid things, everything will be all right."
LOL!

Was she in that? Yep. And A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration. As for Chernobyl, it's not safe. You are better off not having gone, imo.

The other thing I didn't know, and find unbelievable, is that they never shut down the other reactors at Chernobyl. Not sure how the people working there were safe, or where they lived.

You can't make real people into villains just for dramatic effect. That's irresponsible. That's what Brutus and Cassius said when Willy S. opened that scurrilous play about Caesar.

And it just dawned on me that they never followed up on the suicide that opened the series. What the heck? not sure what you mean. what is there to "follow up" on? they do explain in the end (in subtitles while showing pictures and video clips of the actual people) that the tapes he made were circulated amongst the scientific community and that his suicide made it impossible to ignore, and that it lead to changes in the soviet nuclear power plants instead of the party just covering it up

They never explain why this is the outcome. Who he was communicating with. It's just bleeping dropped.
Bad writing. You don't open the story with something and don't ever explain how you got there.
