So I see a Wisconsin/Maryland v. SC/Washington rotating 4 year tourney has been set up, like the UCLA/Stanford v. Penn State/Illinois effort. Does anyone know if the Oregons v. Michigans weekend that happened last year is continuing? And any other B1G v. Pac 12 matches?s I think it's great, although others might think it's promoting elitism. Maryland has the new coach, right? Talk about masochism, adding SC and Washington to the regular B1G schedule, for four years. I hardly think you can propose that MARYLAND and WISCONSIN (Wisconsin perennial middle of the B1G, and Maryland a newcomer to the B1G, and not even good in their previous conference, so destined to be bottom of the B1G for a long time) playing perennial PAC powerhouses USC and UW as elitism...that's a ridiculous notion, elitism would be a tournament with the top 4 from either conference playing. This is driven by money, PAC-12 and B1G have been in negotiations for 2 years to set up a permanent rotating schedule between the two conferences to get more TV coverage in the non-conference schedule. Elitism....NO....capitalism...YES

I'm not saying it is elitism, just saying it could be perceived that way, by Big 12 and ACC, trying to get established as top conferences and the Big 10 and Pac 12 clinging to their prestige;....but I think it's great, and of course anybody can still schedule anybody. Pac 12 has to get out there and schedule better teams, and it doessn't get better than the Big 10.
I know there has been discussion about promoting Big 10 v. Pac 12 competition in all sports; hope this is an early manifestation.
canl4light, or wateever, heard anything about the Michigans coming out to Oregon (State) this fall?

I'm very excited more teams are doing these better tourneys now. The cupcake preseason opponents is no fun. I'd rather have a few possible losses in preseason and play the toughest teams then easy teams where u learn nothing

There is a reason people wanna see more big PAC matchups. It doesn't look any better then having opposing conference games on your schedule in non conference schedule then have to play league in your respective conference. It def be easier to rank teams and not have teams that Havnt played anyone over ranked

I am shocked though Nebraska wasn't paired with either psu or Wisconsin in those PAC 12 big tourneys. That's a little surprising to me

I bet Nebraska doesn't want to play 3/4 years on the road when they have such a big investment in their home gym. Then again, maybe it was just that nobody asked if they wanted to be involved.

At first I thought UW would be guaranteed at least one win over a B1G team but then I was reminded of the last time Steve Aird faced the Huskies.

If your referring to penn state who I'm a fan if by the way, aird was not that relevant he was just there. He doesn't have one of best coaches in country in his staff and he has no where near the talent psu has comming in and out every year. But your funny. Washington should have a problem there

I think Wisconsin would be keen to get into this Washington/USC tournament this year because of RPI. Playing Rutgers and Maryland twice and Penn State and Nebraska only once during conference means that we need to schedule more aggressively in the pre-conference to make up for the hit our RPI will take in the conference schedule.
And as much as I love to see us win our pre-conference home tournament, we are hosting Miami (FL) (2013 final RPI 53), Ball State (2013 final RPI 64) and Missouri State (2013 final RPI 70).
Other pre-conference road foes are Notre Dame, Louisville, Coloardo State, Northern Colorado, and Florida A&M. Louisville looks to be the biggest challenge on that list.
So TL;DR - It's not elitism, at least not from Bucky. It's RPI math.

Hopefully, the interconference matches will be on the Pac-12 Networks - the two conference networks could be a factor in getting this series going. Will be great to have a legitimate pre-season opponent (UW vs UW) in Seattle - I'll be there. Don't know anything about Maryland, but Washington, Wisconsin, and USC are all potential final four teams next season (with three NPOY candidates).

Hey rainbowbadger, I know the SOS wasn't great, but remember that CSU was undefeated heading into the tournament last season. Don't know who all they have back, but the Badgers had better not sleep on them on the road at altitude. Actually, since their talent isn't all that overwhelming, they had better not sleep on anyone with no Savannah States (but at least they finally won!) on the schedule.

Actually, since their talent isn't all that overwhelming, they had better not sleep on anyone with no Savannah States (but at least they finally won!) on the schedule. You are quite correct. And I forgot about CO State. Their final 2013 RPI was 23, just after Michigan State and Purdue. They'll be a challenge as well, for sure. I don't take anything for granted until we get to 3 sets. I'm just thinking that we're probably the favorite to win most of our pre-conference matches, so we'd better deliver, and even then, I hope it's enough for our RPI. And it's a fine line between scheduling too many Savannah States and scheduling like Hambly. I don't think Gobucky or I could take a pre-conference like the one Illinois had last year. Gobucky's nerves would be shot and I wouldn't have any fingernails left.

I think it is best to have a mix of challenges and a few matches you should win so you can try to work things out and get some subs court time before league play starts. I am hoping that this tournament usually ends up being later in the non-conference schedule in 2015 so a Badger team that projects to be pretty inexperienced can work some kinks out before facing this type of challenge.
