Regarding the top three, they each still need to play each other one more time, so there are three more losses between them. Also, most likely one or more will stumble against one of the lower six schools (most likely Davis or Irvine, or possibly Santa Barbara) before the season's over. I see this as likely forcing one of them out of the top 45 or so and out of the tourney. I'm predicting two BW teams in the tournament this year. Of course, I'd love to see three, like last year, and have that become a more regular thing.
Blah, blah, blah. It doesn't matter what data you are presenting, because it's not being used to determine the field. That's the point. What is clear is that rpi is a significant determinant of the field for the selection committee--perhaps not exactly, but within a very close margin, with the seedings deviating some from actual rpi, primarily geographically. That isn't a defense of rpi as much as a description of practical reality. So, if you are truly interested in a better way to select and seed the tournament field, why pick Massey over Pablo other than being a cheap skate? I
lol - I am presenting RPI data - that is what is so funny about your post.
it's always interesting to be called something by another poster! cheap skate? ooooohhhh! so I'd rather have 7 lattes than buy a service. attention Volleytalk posters - all of you who do not buy Pablo rating are hereafter going to be called cheap skates, so it is you duty as Volleytalk posters to subscribe or else you will be shamed into buying it !! lol
we agree RPI is significant determinant of the field - duh.
and no where did I suggest using Massey over Pablo - I suggest you read again. However, Massey would be a BETTER way to select the tournament than the joke RPI is. don't understand the hissey-fit over someone presenting data - it's data!!

With the Northridge loss to Santa Barbara, Long Beach State is in the driver's seat to win the Big West Title. They control their own destiny.

Big West rankings. well, Northridge was the first of the top 3 to get upset - getting broomed at SB will shake things up, sooner or later an upset of the top 3 was expected. Davis got their bubble burst at Irvine. Davis, Irvine, SB, and even Poly have shown some flashes of solid play, so any thought of 'shoe-in' bids or a clear favorite at this point is a little pre-mature, and with five teams with four wins, there a lot of teams with a chance still.
#1: LB - road wins are gold - and LB came away with two, despite getting frustrated by some good Cal Poly defense. They get Davis & Riverside next week, and Davis is no sure thing, if they can navigate two more wins, they'll be in good shape going to the 2nd half & North/Haw but still surviving without a decisive left-side terminator.
#2 Haw - they move up and don't even play! how about that. They have a favorable home schedule to finish up, but better be ready for a Jeckyl & Hyde SB team.
#3) North - ouch, losing is one thing, but getting swept is another. With a frosh setter taking over, kind of expected they could hit a bump on the road, and that's exactly what happened. Could stay bumpy until Miller returns.
#4): Irvine - a sweep of Davis is nice, but their wins have come mostly at home, another week to gain confidence against Full, and then they have probably the toughest remaining schedule left after that.
#5) SB, A day after looking very passive versus Long Beach, they turn it around 180 to put up a fight to take down Northridge. Hard to say which SB team will show up each night, so opponents better be prepared for anything. Good serving team, so that can go on runs.
#6) Davis, had their hopes up, then dashed going to Irvine. Still actually a contender, given they get SB, LB, North, Irvine at home for the 2nd half. The only problem is they have to go to North/LB first before they get those home games - yikes.
#7: Poly - pushed Northridge & LB at home, but still have yet to play a complete match against the top teams.
#8: Fullerton - beat Riverside to get the monkey off their back and into the win column.
#9: Riverside - got a set versus Fullerton, and that may have been their best shot to break into the win column.

Probably a better league this year, but the loss by Northridge doesn't help their chances for multiple bids. It is just hard to win all your road league matches, no matter what league you are in.

On the good side, the Big West teams that do get in may benefit from there maybe being no So Cal pods with USC, UCLA, and USD a bit down and maybe not hosting.

Look for Long Beach State to enter the AVCA Top 25 Poll tomorrow afternoon. All five schools schools ranked #22 through #26--#22 Ohio St., #23 Minnesota, #24 Loyola Marymount, #25 Kansas St., and #26 Northwestern--suffered losses this weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if the Beach debuts as high as #23 in tomorrow's poll.
