my vote for RS goes to adolpho she can shut down hitters and run her "molokai slide" this worked well with Ferrari at San Diego and McNeal at Texas, she just won't pass

If Passi can play like Chanteal Satele, she could earn the starting nod. Satele was underrated, she hit with a lot of power, hit for a respectable percentage, played good defense and was a very good blocker despite her height. I like Satele, but didn't think she brought enough to the RS position to help the team take that extra step forward. She did pretty good in all aspects, but we could've used better blocking and hitting from that position.

In her junior season at UH she averaged a block per set and averaged two kills per set each year.

Satele tends to be overlooked because she as surrounded by three all Americans, and an amazing freshman in jane croson. Satele was a fantastic player who would terminate when the wahine needed her too. She was always reliable and didn't really crack under the pressure

While you're both right regarding Satele, I would've like to have seen more from that position than what she provided. More kills, more blocks. Like a Kat Harms, Katie Fuller type.

She wasn't an All-American, but did very well as the second offensive option behind Danielson in 2010, and raised her hitting percentage when she became the No. 3 option in 2011. All I'm saying is that if Passi can play like Satele, she could get the starting job. If some of the newcomers can do better, then that's great. Because basing on what we saw last year, Olevao and Long are not going to cut it.

That depends on the offense that Shoji runs. Shoji's offense revolves heavily around left sides, and right-side hitters are not tasked to become the primary offensive producers. Shoji has always said they need somebody who could block and provide around 2 kills/set on the right. You didn't think Satele's one block per set was enough?

2013 blocking stats average per set, RS Taylor 0.77, LS Olevao 0.40, and Hartong 0.39. MBs Vorster 1.03 and Adolpho 0.93.

Shoji stated his needs based on who was on his roster at that time. I think if he'd had a strong right side like Lowe, Nwanebu, or Scott, the opposing teams wouldn't key in on our left sides all the time. One block per game is actually great, and again Satele did well, I just wish we had better.
