That is great. Now will any of them come to Princeton next year? If not, then nothing has changed. The MPSF recognizes they need to play out of conference, but until more than 2 or 3 teams travel, it is the same story. Playing at home is a different ball game.

Its great that they are willing to put them on the schedule. How bout repaying that visit with a visit of your own next time? Don't hold your breath....

You try telling UC San Diego's athletics budget people to pay for an east coast trip to play in a non conference match.

But an ivy league school like Princeton, which won't even give athletic scholarships, has an unlimited athletic budget? funny. edit: Besides my point isn't that all of the schools will make a return trip, but that none of those schools would make a return trip.

Shouldn't be a surprise why the MPSF doesn't like to travel OOC: A) The conference is huge (less OOC games) B) It's extremely tough competition.
I personally don't believe that these teams like to "snub" the rest of the vball world, but when you have these two things working against you, it makes it tough to accomodate. If/When the MPSF breaks up, all these teams will be making trips OOC as regularly as the rest of the vball community. All MPSF teams would be in favor of a split, if the other split members were awarded an auto-bid (which IMO is completely reasonable now given the finals expansion). I think it's just a matter of time till the politics of scheduling become a moot point...

Princeton needs to go to California because they have to recruit in California. MPSF teams don't do much recruiting in New Jersey.

Not unlimited, but more. For instance, long beach awards athletic scholarships, while Harvard does not, but do you think harvards athletic budget is less than long beach? Similarly, Vinny has posted mpsf volleyball budgets in the past. While teams like uci and usc both have 4.5 scholarships, usc's budget was at least triple that of irvine.

Great point lionsarm. The main point that has been mentioned, but not truly emphasized, is the MPSF schedule. Until they do something about the format, schools are handcuffed to staying "local" and playing matches within the conference. The coaches recognize this and are moving toward necessary changes.
