HERMOSA BEACH, CA - The 21st meeting of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior National Beach Volleyball Championships will take place this weekend, July 12-13th at the Hermosa Beach Pier. The premiere event will feature competition in Boys 18:U, 16:U, 14:U and 12:u while the Girls field will include teams in the 18:U, 16:U, 15:U, 14:U, 12:U and 10:U divisions. Teams are entered from several AAU districts across the country and all four AAU zones including several foreign countries. Fans, parents and collegiate coaches can follow the action on AES. The annual AAU Beach Volleyball Player of the Year (from the previous year) is announced annually at the opening ceremony of this event.
The AAU Beach Volleyball program is the leader in junior beach volleyball development and the largest amateur sports organization in the USA. The AAU Beach Volleyball program has local, district, regional and national events across the USA and for over 20 years, is the largest and most comprehensive junior beach volleyball program in the country. Hermosa Beach has been home of the AAU National Beach Volleyball Championships for 19 out of the 21 years of the event's history. This event is also the largest qualifier for the (West Coast) AAU Junior Olympic Games which will feature beach volleyball as one of the many sports offered in the games at both multi sports events.
The AAU sanctioned the first beach volleyball tournament in 1957 in Manhattan Beach, California with the first national junior event in 1994. The AAU continues to be leader in junior beach volleyball programming from elite level to grass roots development. Founded in 1888, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is based in Lake Buena Vista, Florida and is the leader in amateur sports development for over a century. The Southern Pacific Volleyball Committee is the district volleyball representative organization of the AAU in Southern California and operates the AAU National Championships, West Coast AAU Junior Olympic Games, AAU Super Regionals, AAU Best of the Beach, AAU Pan Pacific Championships and all Southern California AAU beach volleyball tournaments.
