The progress Hames made toward the end of last season was tangible. Her stats went up, her connections with all of her hitters were solid, and she became a leader on the floor. I think she has good hands, is an outstanding defensive player, and knows the game as good as anyone. With that said, I have to wonder what Coach Cook does with Drewnick. Her highlight videos online, as a setter and as a hitter, are both impressive. With a 6'2" setter coming in 2020 with international experience, having already played for Bernardo Rezende in Brazil at the junior level, I'd imagine competition is going to be tough. Here are just a few scenarios (in no particular order): 1) Hames and Drewnick run a 6-2 in 2020/2021, 2) Hames beats out Drewnick in 2020 and Drewnick redshirts in 2020 and starts for three years, or 3) Drewnick beats out Hames in 2020 and starts for four years.
This is not going to be easy decision to make. I think Hames has the edge because of her connections with players who are already on the team, and her leadership and seniority, but Drewnick is a four-year starter at just about any school.
You seem to be overlooking Kennedi Orr in your scenarios. I will be shocked if Drewnick plays much at setter in anything other than a 6-2. Orr is a spectacular talent. I do wonder who ends up being the top ranked setter in the 2021 class. Early prognosticators would say it's between Orr and Miner. Orr seems far more polished as a setter right now, but Miner just has that athleticism and ceiling of A. Glass 2.0. I think it's entirely possible we see a setter at #1 senior aces in 2021, which is a rarity.

Lets reel in the excitement here. Drewnick didn't even make the top 50 junior recruits. She either hasn't been seen by many college recruiters or they've seen her and aren't as impressed (at least at this stage in her development) as some Nebraska fans may think.

She made a junior team for Brazil. An average player could not do that. I’m gonna go with she hasn’t been seen because the girl looks like a special player to me

I don't think PrepVB will be able to accurately assess her. She didn't set full-time on her HS or club team. She didn't play HS this year so she could train full-time as a setter and play on the Brazilian JNT. She did set full-time down there and did really well. It'll be interesting to see if she sets for her club team this spring, or if she'll continue to play multiple positions as in the past. Given her club's level, they'll probably need her as an attacker. PrepVB has her in the 69-100 range for junior aces as of right now, with the official list to be determined. She's not on Orr's level, but given her trajectory, she might turn out really good and give Cook something to think about. She looks smooth in her Brazil clips and her size and all-around skill set are intriguing.

Drewnick will never dethrone hames. Or Orr.
....barring injury.

We need Kubik to establish herself as a starter on the left so Davis or Zuhn can push or take over Sweet’s spot. We can’t afford not having much production on the right next fall

JAZZ really was a difference maker in the tourney. She came around and whatever issues she had during season hopefully have been put to rest. She was a big time gamer when we needed her the most.

No way was she a difference maker. If she was a difference maker we would have 3 national championships in the past 4 years. It didn’t help that Sun disappeared too in the final. We were a couple of converted shots away from winning it all. I would think Sweet hit below .200. She had numerous shots blocked

I’m just saying we need someone more reliable on the right

Look up Albrecht's hitting before her senior season compared to her senior season. Coaching is about development, not just plugging in new people until someone performs.

When the Chips were down she executed. She had a rough year no doubt but...lets see what she can do this coming season.

Of course she can improve a lot but we need an insurance policy to push her in case she doesn’t improve

I said Sweet and Sun were the ones that hurt us the most. Sweet played well against Illinois but was a disaster against Stanford

She had numerous shots blocked To me, the difference in the Stanford match came down to two things: Nebraska was a minus six to a plus one for Stanford in the difference between aces and serving errors. Seven points was the difference in serving only based on that statistic. Plus the referee overturning the service call at 13-11 in the fifth set. We weren’t going to win at 14-10. Very, very slim chance.
