EDIT: So to offer Meyer a volleyball scholarship, you'd better be darn sure she's going to be a stud. I think they offered her a scholarship because she has the potential to be a stud. Somewhat similar to the situation with Christina Houghtelling coming out of high school with limited big-time volleyball experience.

Nebraska's 2020 Meyer.... I saw her this weekend. Girl needs some work. I see her potential, but girl needs some work. Couldn't the track and field put her on 4 in discus to open a schollie? I bet she gets pretty good though over time. does she throw also? I thought Kalyn was the discus queen.

IF: She also plays volleyball, then she will be a volleyball 'counter' (volleyball scholarship counter). The only sport where a scholarship player wouldn't be a 'volleyball counter' would be if they were also playing women's basketball - the 'only' higher tier sport. Yup. I have heard of a couple girls who wanted to play volleyball as their "second" sort, and each time it didn't happen because the volleyball coach said no way they would pay for a part time player to play another sport. Stanford obviously let's Gray do track. There is also the occasional basketball player who plays volleyball. Candace Wiggins was a very good volleyball player who played a year at Stanford before going full time basketball and winning POY. The last 2-sport athlete I know of from the Husker Volleyball Team, but was on a basketball scholarship, was Alicia Ostrander in the 2015/16 season. It was her Senior season and Husker Basketball had 1 available. She convinced Coach Cook, and former BB Head Coach Connie Yori. Ya, The "Big O".

Track and Field only has something like 11 or 13 scholarships to split over their entire roster. I'd be stunned if anyone on Pepin's team was on more than 0.5 scholarship. Anything more than that, you'd better be an NCAA-title winning athlete. Thing is throwing is by far her best sport. A national champion thrower would definitely be within reach.

Sam Francis > Kaylin Meyer From my limited understanding, right now it's not really close.

Once upon a time, Cris Hall was an All-American on the Husker volleyball team and a Big 8 championship-level heptathlete I believe.

Not an All American for volleyball, but we can also include Allie Havers. Key contributor for Nebraska's basketball team for four years, then joined the volleyball team and was a great teammate during the national championship run. Then played for the beach team!

Allie was also an excellent softball player in high school as a pitcher and, believe it or not, a short stop.
