Cris Hall did it when she was a Husker and really never developed into her full potential as a volleyball player in my opinion. She was an exceptional track and field athlete that was just starting to become a great volleyball player her senior year. I think the multi sport collegiate athlete is WAY overrated. I think there are examples of multisport athletes thriving in each sport and some not so much. Jenna Gray is obviously thriving in both. Liz Brenner for Oregon comes to mind as someone whose volleyball skills decreased as she dedicated more time to other sports. I thought Liz was fantastic in both; wasn't she up for the Sullivan? GO HUSKERS

I think Meyer easily could do both. During track season the throwers really only might work out 1-2 afternoons per week. If Jenna Gray can chuck the javelin for Stanford, Meyer can throw discus in Lincoln. It's such a part of her family legacy and she has legit Olympic aspirations, I'd be stunned if she gave it up. What were Jenna Gray's vb skills coming into Stanford? Meyer is going to be behind. Raw, athletic as all get out but behind where Cook needs her to be unless she redshirts. I'm simply suggesting that she might never develop into the beast she could be at Nebraska as a volleyball player if she's a two sport athlete because she won't be walking in the door with the volleyball skills she needs to start with. She might not give it up, she might be an Olympic track athlete this is all great for her, I'm just saying if those are her family's aspirations we as Husker vb fans are probably going to be disappointed in her overall development as a player in the end. I hope I'm wrong.

It may depend on whether she has a track scholarship. If so she will need to concentrate more on track. If not, then volleyball can be her main focus. Regardless wish her the best as a Husker. GBR!

Has there been definitive confirmation that Nicole Drewnick is enrolled for fall. If so is she going on the China trip.

I'd hate to see a girl with her discus skills give it up! JMHO! If it is too tedious to do both; I would suggest track because of her talents; but maybe her true love is volleyball! At any rate; You Go Girl! Go where your heart is! GO HUSKERS

With the arm Meyer has, huskers should have her ripping a top spin. It could be insane

It would be less detrimental compared to an athlete playing volleyball/basketball, but detrimental nonetheless. I presume Kalynn will throw in college which does interfere with volleyball development, especially since she needs the year round technical focus, but it is what it is. She can still be successful at both, but college is a big step up and specialization is preferable if she wants to maximize development. That's not even considering all the other time constraints on student-athletes. As long as she plays on the volleyball team, and is on an athletic scholarship; she will be a 'volleyball counter'. But she can be a dual sport athlete by being a 'volleyball counter' for 4 of her 5 available years, and concentrate on throwing only for 1 of her 5 years thus being on a 'track scholarship'/or not, and not playing volleyball that 1 year! An interesting 5-year graduation plan to develop I think! *And an interesting challenge for Husker Strength Coach Brian Kmitta - who already trains volleyball and track.
