In Class C2, it's interesting to see that private school champions went from 4 in the 80s, to 0 in the 90s to 8 in the 2000s. That's decreased since 2011. Perhaps becoming harder for private schools at the C2 size level? Class B is about holding steady, but Class A took off from 1 private school champion a decade to 4 private school champions in the past 7 years. On the consolidated school front, it's interesting to see a surge of the % of champions every other decade. Perhaps the pattern of school consolidations? Newly consolidated schools win more immediately after a merger as they're the top of their Class in size, and then as the future plays out and the school population decreases, they begin to drop off. Regarding class c2, I think a lot of the private schools that had been in class c2 have been dropping in enrollment, or going up. And then there are a couple of them that jump between c2 and c1 (a couple years ago there was a pretty good rivalry between two of them and they seemed to never be in the same class, but they'd always flip between the two classes). As far as for consolidated schools, you are on the right track. IMO consolidated schools usually have pretty good teams the fist couple of years they combine because there's a greater chance of having a complete team of athletes. For example, a school that lies within a town has only the kids within that school to fill out a team. There may be 4 really good players and then you're left with filling the other spots with whatever you have. A consolidated school has double the chance of filling those spots. However, in the end the consolidated schools usually even out with the non consolidated schools (at least in the lower classes) and then it really comes down to which teams have the better coaches and more dedicated athletes.

Great data dcvbfan! Wow, so if I read this correctly, 1 finalist out of the 34 teams in the last 17 state finals in class C1 has been a public school? That is shameful that the NSAA hasn't revised classifications.

That is shameful that the NSAA hasn't revised classifications. I don't have details but they tried to change the classifications for parachials and it was met with very strong resistance. Many of these schools have big donors with deep pockets like North Platte St. Pats. They fight tooth and nail against it.

That is shameful that the NSAA hasn't revised classifications. I don't think you are reading it correctly. It's heavily in favor of the private schools with 25 of 34 total finalists (9/14 for 2011-17 and 16/20 for 2001-10), but it's not 33/34 overall as you seem to state in your post. The figures for C-1 are skewed by the fact that Columbus Scotus and Grand Island Central Catholic were both in that class for the majority of the 1990's, 2000's and 2010's. The both have (or had) highly respected, long-term coaches (John Peterson at Scotus and Sharon Zavala at GICC) who had great success with their teams year after year. That kind of success feeds on itself and attracts talented kids who continue to build on the overall success of the program. It certainly helps that they are smaller schools located in larger (for Nebraska) communities, but I'm guessing they never really had to recruit kids too hard once they had their programs rolling with a consistent level of annual achievement.

They do recruit...that is the point.

Aw! I believe she verbally committed to Texas Tech! GO HUSKERS Reminds me of something that movie mogul Samuel Goldwyn said: A verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on.
