NP Stevens at 1-1 Both "backup" setters are really struggling. Lutjen was benched for most of 2nd set and had some really poor body language. Never been impressed with 24 from Stevens and certainly haven't been today. Funny you weren't impressed, we were. Lutjen and Eddins looked to be great assets all season long.

I've been impressed with Lutjen in past. Just didn't offer his best yesterday. Eddins has never tickled my fancy. Just about any setter could do what he does

It's a shame Woods had the injury. Would have been fun to watch him and Ferriter go head to head Woods didn't have an injury, Stevens just blocked the actually %*$# out of him today and made him look like a little girl so they had to take him out for being so unproductive. Also, Eddins now has the ring to prove you all wrong so you guys should probably just suck a fat one. -Chut

He was hitting negative and his block was unproductive, so they put in the 6'7" right side who already won a national championship. Then they put woods back in, so it's unlikely he was injured...

Announcer repeatedly reported that he tweaked his knee during warm-up today.

The announcer definitely made it clear many, many, MANY times that Woods had injured his knee in warmups but I didn't see any evidence of it when he was on the floor. I am not in Sullivan's head so I don't know if it was a gameplan decision to go to the middles early and often or if Woods tweaking his knee in warmups had him adjust his game plan but, either way, they went to middles early and then when they went to Woods he just couldn't get it done. I didn't see any evidence of him leaping any differently or favoring the knee and I watched the Naz game yesterday as well. Without Woods and a dominant middle to take over some of the kills, Springfield just couldn't keep pace with the onslaught of the Stevens pin attackers + aggressive bics. Well done by Stevens.

Nobody has mentioned the ceiling height yet?
How nice was it that the gym didn't decide a noticeable % of the points? Why are we going back to Nazareth again?

You would think there would be a minimum ceiling height requirement for the NCAAs. Maybe they could host but hold it somewhere else in the Rochester area.

Congrats to Stevens, Ferriter and Siefert both played well and Vaughn at Libero was a great move. He showed why he didn't take the year off in that game alone. Role positions win championships in volleyball. Woods didn't show any signs of having a knee tweek and if he did shame on Sullivan for putting him back in the game.

Stevens proved why they were number 1 almost all year long. We knew heading into the year their lineup was loaded with talent, and with hosting the championship, it was their tourney to lose in a sense. Ferriter transferring to them was huge. I still think he's the best OH in D3, and IMO should be the favorite for POY heading into next season.
Speaking of next year, I'm wondering if Stevens can keep up what they did this season. Having seniors who have been there in a championship run can't be overlooked. Evans, Ackerle, and Siefert did a great job bringing consistent play and playing under the spotlight. I don't see them repeating next year, although there's still a lot of talent in that roster.
Springfield in an "off year" did an amazing job. Sullivan recruits and trains at a very high level, and seems to have found two studs in Padilla and Woods. Vega returns next year to what should be a reloaded, more experienced lineup. They've got three returning setters, and a number of guys who could fill in at a libero spot. I'm curious to see if they'll continue to play a "pin" oriented style of offense. Obviously they didn't have the middles they've had in the past, but their middles only got 12 combined swings in a 4 set win over Naz. A trend they relied on throughout the year. I find it interesting because their middles had some of the best hitting % numbers on their team. Gotta think they'll be back in at least the national semis next year.
As for Naz hosting, I think they did a great job a few years ago when they hosted. Yes the ceiling is a little low for men's ball, but the atmosphere is second to none. Rochester is a volleyball town (look how many guys in the NCAA tourney, and the finals specifically were from Rochester), and they should draw extremely well for a lot of matches. The finals a few years back was SRO (also sold out), as was the Molton Championship a few years prior. Their program looks to be back in the shape it has been in previous years. Kemp is a consistent setter who's going to get better with more experience. Lawatsch is a big loss in the middle, but there's a huge core of guys returning. Gotta think they make the tourney next year.
Overall a really fun year. I'm happy to see a new champ. I'm predicting a much bigger mid-west influence in the next 2-4 years with more programs popping up there and a 2017 bid for the CVC. I could see another conference being created in the coming years there as well as more schools continue to add programs.

Congrats to Stevens and all but i really think if Carthage was just given the chance with an at large they would have won this year, they were really getting their stuff together at the end of the season

Congrats to Stevens and all but i really think if Carthage was just given the chance with an at large they would have won this year, they were really getting their stuff together at the end of the season If you continue to wait to be given a chance, you will never get there! You guys had 5 opportunities to earn your way in and came up short all 5 times.

Congrats to Stevens and all but i really think if Carthage was just given the chance with an at large they would have won this year, they were really getting their stuff together at the end of the season Just stop...please...you make a bad name for all the Carthage fans out there... Could Carthage have won a match if they were put into the tournament, maybe, but to say they would have won the national championship is ridiculous. They didn't win a big match with Tyler or Ricky setting. Carthage was a good team and beat the teams they were supposed to beat but couldn't get anything done against the best teams. End of story.
