If Dominican has 2 All Americans, spent the money to come east, and cannot make the tournament or the top 15, I would think the coach would get called to the ADs office to do some 'splaining.

That's a stupid statement. Spent the money to come east- probably fundraised it. Cannot make the tournament? Not in a conference with an A.Q., so they're up against UVC runner-ups, UCSC and Springfield. Good luck. And top 15? I personally would have them in, but if they don't, who cares? After 1-10, maybe even 1-7/8, it's a popularity contest that you can swing the bottom 5-7 teams around.

I gotta agree. They're a top 17 team. May even get ranked today. They had a solid year. Still a young NCAA program, making huge strides. Lot to be proud of there.

If you don't think an athletic director is going to ask why they didn't accomplish anything with 2 of the best players in the country than you don't understand college sports. That said, they got 15th which should make for a very different conversation. Its a second year program off to a great start.

It is a shame these two teams couldn't find a way to play this season so they could settle this on the floor - oh wait, they did.

North Central went recruit crazy for their first year, damn...22 boys listed on middlehitter from all over Illinois and the surrounding areas They did recruit a lot! Looks like some solid kids from some respectable clubs. Midwest is full of good junior talent, which up till now, had limited options on where to go to school if they didn't want to play club. Great to see more D3 programs adding. Like I said in earlier posts, I see these new(er) programs being very competitive in the coming years. Only question I have is how does North Central retain all these kids? 22 as a first year class (some transfers included in that mix), including 5 setters. If you're attending North Central next year are you guaranteed a spot on the roster? If you're being "recruited," are you comfortable with the possibility of being cut? What happens the next year when the coach recruits another 8-10 kids? I'm not saying this program isn't going to be good, but at some point your program gets a reputation as one that cuts a ton of kids. How likely is it that more kids will continue to want to come play for you?

Personally I think most AD's would lean toward the last part of your statement- they're a SECOND year program that just finished in the top 15 and had two All-Americans. I would imagine the AD would be elated, not scolding the coach. I understand college athletics quite well thank you. They play in a tough conference, went above .500, had two AA's and finished top 15- to me, and I'd imagine a good amount of people who pay attention to DIII, that's "accomplishing something".

Carthage pops to mind as a school that usually has huge classes that whittle down quickly. Then you're stuck in Kenosha, ya know?

It is going to be interesting over the next few years in the western suburbs of IL for Dominican, Benedictine, and North Central. All schools in a close proximity. All schools starting one year after another. A little recruiting war has begun already I'm sure. Have fun!

Who said anything about scolding? I said they would be asked to explain. At the end of the season most ADs (especially with a young program) are sitting down with their coach and asking them about what went right, what went wrong and where they can improve. It may still come up, but if they weren't ranked I can't imagine an AD (assuming they cared) who wouldn't have said something like "we have two of the top 20 players in the country but we aren't ranked. If it isn't about talent, where did we come up short? And how do we address that going forward?" Most coaches I know in various sports say the ADs like to ask 1-2 awkward questions. The truth is as a second year program they probably just are not deep enough yet, but to an AD that could sound a lot like the kid who got an A and 3 Fs on his report card - "Jimmy, you are spending too much time on one subject." That said, I don't know the AD. Maybe he is the warm and fuzzy type. And I do think being ranked changes the conversation a bit.
