I feel for Pitt. Losing Jessica Wynn, maybe their most consistent hitter, right at this point in the season is clearly hurting them. Without her, they've probably got to sweep Virginia, Louisville, and NC State teams they normally would handle, but now much dicier. I don't think they can take another loss and still make the tournament. Actually, they could easily win out and still not make the tournament.
The Pac 10 looks like it'll have 9 bids for sure and may have a tenth in Oregon State. The pool of at large bids is getting smaller.

I thought they would for sure make the tournament over Miami. It's such a shame because the ACC deserves more than four bids; it's such an underrated conference. Pitt, ND, and Louisville have proven that being in the ACC is no easy task. And Pitt's latest RPI has fallen below that of VT.

Have to be proud of BC's performance! Last year they only won 1 game!

Nov 17 update:
Florida State 24-2 12-2 AVCA #8 RPI #3 UNC 22-2 13-1 AVCA #7 RPI #5 Duke 20-6 12-3 AVCA #21 RPI #22 Miami 19-7 12-3 AVCA NR RPI #27 ------------------------------------------------------------------- VA Tech RPI #50 PITT RPI #54 VA RPI #56
Comments:
FSU suffered 2 critical losses this past weekend to Duke and UNC... Credit to both Carolina teams... they played strong on their home courts and the matches went their way !! FSU should stay top 4 seed in RPI for post season..
Miami is coming on strong at season's end...keep moving up in RPI.
Pitt will suffer without their #1 OH-- Wynn.. sorry that she is injured.. don't wish that on any team.
Would love to see 5 ACC teams make post season but it doesn't look it will fall that way
The last 2 weeks of ACC Play can result in a few surprises:
Can Duke beat UNC @ UNC ?
Will Louisville come on strong at home vs. UNC this weekend?
FSU remaining schedule all at home matches should win out...vs. BC, Syracuse, Clemson and Miami
It will take only one UNC upset for FSU to co-share ACC Championship... still hoping it can be done..

I'm not completely sure about FSU-Miami. They went 5 earlier in the year and FSU has to adjust to whatever appeared to work against them last week. It wasn't just a matter of FSU having two horrible matches. I assume they will make the adjustments, but I wouldn't assume that any of the 4 are gimmes. It's the ACC and weird things tend to happen.
I do think if either or both FSU and UNC make it deep into the tournament, whatever happened last week or whatever does happen over the next two weeks won't matter. Same thing if they go out in the first weekend of the NCAA, it won't really matter who won the ACC.
If Tech wins out, they do have quality wins, but I don't see the committee letting a team outside either the Pac 10 or Big 10 into the tournament with more than 10 losses. I also don't think it's the year for that. Too many teams coming out of the other big conferences to leave the space (9-10 Pac Ten 7-9 Big Ten, etc.). Also the Big West and the WCC have a better case for a third team than the ACC's fifth team would have.

Page Neuenfeldt was this week's ACC player of the week. I think that's 4 different UNC players who've been player of the week. Mcadoo, Taner, Nelson, Neuenfeldt. I imagine it's happened before, but does anyone know for sure?
Kylie Long oh Wake Forest was freshman of the week. It's nice to see them get in the awards mix.

November 24th Weekly Update: Sorted on RPI
FLORIDA STATE 26-2 (14-2) AVCA Rank #8 RPI #3 UNC 24-2 (15-1) AVCA Rank #7 RPI #6 DUKE 21-6 (13-3) AVCA RANK #21 RPI #21 MIAMI 20-7 (13-3) AVCA NR RPI #28 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VA TECH 15-14 (8-8) AVCA NR RPI #47 PITT 23-6 (11-5) AVCA NR RPI #51
Looks like ACC Championship will come down to matches between Duke @ UNC and MIAMI @ FSU ... Duke beating UNC this Wed. could provide huge dividends for them in NCAA seeding and bragging rights..UNC wins and they are outright ACC Champs... both teams with much on the line as this is a huge in state rivalry
Miami plays @ FSU on Friday.. this match is important for Miami to win for post season play.. they will bring their top game to Tully gym on Friday.
FSU could be Co-Champs of ACC...first they must win out this week over Clemson and Miami... AND....as last year, their fate is in the hands of the UNC/Duke match...have to admit..the FSU losses from 2 weeks ago still stings..
Based on RPI above....Post season play will see 4 teams from the ACC in tournament IMO: FSU-UNC-DUKE-MIAMI
Congrats to: ACC POW: MB Orchard from Pitt ACC FOW: MB Kearney from NC State

Does anyone know what happened to Sr. RS Rachel Buckley from NC State? She has led team in kills for several matches this season and now is gone from roster.

Somewhat confusing to list the 2nd place team first. Whatever, conference championships don't really matter as much as tournament performance, so if I were an FSU fan I'd be looking forward to the tourney rather than resting my hopes on the UNC-Duke game and risk having the déjà vu complaining that the other team didn't win when FSU had their chances earlier in the season. VA Tech has had a great late season surge in the RPI and should finish 11-7 but it's probably a little too late for them because playing against BC and the Cuse certainly won't raise their RPI. If it weren't for the pair of Clemson 5 setter losses I think VT would be in the tourney. However, they have provided Miami with their much needed top 50 win. It'll be interesting to see how the conference awards look, as Miami honestly deserves both POY and FOY. The top two teams won't get any player awards if that happens (assuming Karelov wins DPOY). I think COY should still go to Fisher for doing what he has with much less, but it'll probably go to either Sagula or Poole. It'll be interesting to see which middles make the first team as Burrington (she's a lock, and still has a chance at a 2nd team All-American spot), Sims, Nuenfeldt, Orchard, Tucker and even Tess Clark have extraordinary stat lines in conference.

Mosher isn't even in the top 5 for dogs in the ACC. People talk about er a ton, but she doesn't have the numbers to compete with Ece Taner, Delaney Clesen or Sasha Karelov. Karelov is unreal in the top 20 in digs with more than 5 digs a set. She may be top 5 in the country

Mosher IS in the Top 5 in Overall Digs/set and ranks #4 in ACC stats in digs/set... you seem to focus so much on only this stat. there are hundreths of a % seperating Claseen-Tanner and Mosher... a team that leads ACC almost weekly in Blocks as FSU does i.e. vs. Duke.. the libero will not have as many opportunities to stack the stat sheet on digs...thats just the way it is.. It only makes sense that the Duke libero could have one more dig per set.....as is the case right now,, Duke is not a blocking team... Mosher is deserving of discussion.. not sure why you are so negative towards her or Walch.. you routinely bash them every chance you get---stop already... p.s. what is top 5 for Dogs anyway? LOL
