True, even though UW lost, it was an incredible match. I was just actually watching some matches of the 2000's... it just seems like the volleyball that was played was at a higher level than it is now. Seems like there was more fire on court. big defensive plays, better setting, faster transitioning. I dunno, perhaps I'm just getting older but lots of matches these days just don't excite me.

Love how no one quotes Dorothy when it's obvious he/she has the truth of it. Yet the debate continues.

When we played UW in '12, I remember the media asking Cook something like, "Is UW Nebraska Volleyball's new rivalry??" and he responded like, "There is no rivalry, we've only played 3 times." I was like, WHAT I LOVE playing Washington! I would be proud to have UW as a rival and I was kind of disappointed in his answer. hahaha '08 NU vs. UW was amazing but late in that 5th set, it could have gone either way I think. Glad we won though so we could play PSU for that unbelievable, once-in-a-lifetime, EPIC semifinal match ...Yeah, I still watch that match. And yeah, I can totally quote Beth Mowins!!!!!!! hahahahahahaha btw, I have felt the same way when watching those matches from the 2000's... I don't know if it was the players, or the crowds, or Chris Marlowe lol... but in comparison, matches these days do seem a bit more cut and dry... There's definitely something gritty about the matches with Tom, Cacciamani, Scott, etc... idk what it would be though. I wasn't following VB at the time, but I've seen some of those matches, and I agree, it really does seem different.

I still remember when the fifth set started and how fired up the players on both sides were. That was a heavyweight slugfest that most people didn't expect given PSU's dominance and Nebraska having lost so many AAs the previous off-season. PSU was a deserving champ though, that was a great team.

If I remember correctly she just said "John Cook just walked in, and man what a great match his team played the other night."

Oh Dear Goodness, if I could have been there for that match..... I was watching it with my parents from their couch, and we were glued the whole match, just nervously watching sets fly out to Hodge and Fawcett. I was more than pessimistic during the whole match, but when Licht killed the overpass putting us up about 8-7(?) in set 5... For the first time all night, I had hope. Love every moment of that match, and I wouldn't change a thing looking back. '08 Penn St is an All-Time Great IMO. And '08 Nebraska is my favorite team ever, I mean how could they not be? It was magical, even from a living room.

John Cook addresses the media 08/11/2014 Take aways.I really love what they've done and are doing at Devaney although I think it's odd that the "grand entrance" is on the south side with the huge majority of spectators entering from the north. 2,000 people on the WAITING LIST for season tickets? Impressive! Husker volleyball now running in the black financially. This is based only on regular ticket sales and doesn't take into account the sky box and high $$$ court side seats. I wish we could more clearly hear the questions being ask by the media. I like the emphasis being put on the MB position. Obviously pretty important for the team's success. Limited number of weekends playing back to back.

Well----I hate to say: "I told you so" but I in fact told you so. I was on here 4-5 years ago repeatedly saying Nebraska Volleyball had totally outgrown the venerable old coliseum and that it was only a matter of time before Husker Volleyball was forced by demand & $$$$$ to move into a new and much larger venue. I was vociferously shouted down by other Huskerfans here and at other Husker chatboards for even SUGGESTING such a sacrilegious thing. I kept @ it, pointing out the inevitability because of demand and the fact it would become the only other college VB program to run in the black besides Hawaii. The writing was clearly on the wall but boy did I take a lot of flack. Sooooooooo, I take a lot of personal satisfaction reading articles like this.
