Nebraska/Michigan State 2007, Nebraska/Penn State 2008, Nebraska/Washington 2008, Stanford/Texas 2008, Penn State/Texas 2009 are my top five. Lots of great volleyball in the second half of that decade. Tom Osborn told me the PSU Nebraska match in 08 was the greatest Nebraska sporting event he had ever witnessed. That's a helluva statement from someone who isn't prone to embellish. Cant recall after a match where coaches and teams had a genuine and total respect for the effort of their opponent. I'll never forget the point in the fourth set where D'Errico bump sets a pipe ball to Fawcett, who absolutely crushes it at Banwarth. Mueller chases it down behind the baseline, diving with one arm, then, out of nowhere, Licht comes running from right front, lays out behind the baseline, throwing an arm at the ball, and somehow gets it over the net from 35 feet away. So much fight. I cried.

Of those I have seen in person:
2006 Regional Final PSU at UW - great atmosphere, no question home-court advantage was crucial
2004 or so (can't remember exactly) - UW at Stanford in Burnham Pavilion (it was the year Maples was being renovated). 1100 people including those hanging from the rafters. Crazy loud. UW won Game 2 something like 30-8 but lost the match. Even with the loss it was a great match.
For some reason I would put that 2008 Nebraska at UW Regional Final down as the worst game I have ever seen. Up 9-3 in the 5th and lose it. Absolutely heartbreaking.
I was not there and had to follow via twitter while on vacation but last year's Regional Final between UW and USC was a great match.

The only thing was, Bricio wasn't playing her best match out there and that's when the team needed her the most. That match would've been a whole different story for UW if Bricio would've been on her A-game.

Stanford - Texas semifinals in 2008. Down 0-2, Stanford rallied to win the match in 5 vs Destinee Hooker and the Longhorns. The first school to do that in NCAA history. What an epic battle of two 2012 Olympic starters in Hooker and Akinradewo.

I also like the 2004 Finals match between Stanford and Minnesota. Minnesota was so good that year I thought they're gonna win it, but Nnamani was just too much for the golden gophers. Would appreciate if someone gets to upload it on youtube!

I don't know about all-time, but of those I've been to in person, 2012 Oregon at Washington was pretty amazing. 26-24, 16-25, 21-25, 32-30, 25-23 Huskies had to survive 14 match points against a team that ended up in the national finals. Not to mention while losing Vansant to injury in the fourth set. I still remember the Oregon players huddled on the court celebrating what they thought was a win, but then a touch was called.

Would appreciate if someone gets to upload it on youtube! I was at that match, but the Golden Gophers had their hands full with the Buckeyes and Georgia Tech in Minnesota at the Regional Finals. For me, both of those matches were more exciting with the Gophers having to win both matches in 5.

The best collegiate volleyball match of all time was the 1989 Championship Match in Honolulu: Long Beach St. vs. Nebraska. Long Beach was the decided underdog and reached the Final Four by defeating two #1 seeds on their home courts. Also, LBSU head coach Brian Gimmillaro featured a team that utilized a quick attack, that many argue revolutionized the collegiate game. Historically, the 1989 LBSU Championship team had other noteworthy achievements: (1) It was Long Beach State's first NCAA Championship title; (2) LBSU blanked Nebraska 15-0 in set #2--an NCAA title game record; (3) Long Beach State featured 5 African American starters--Tara Cross, Vicky Pullins, Antoinette White, Cheryl Stephens, and Trishona Thompson--no other team had ever had more than one African American on a team that reached the Final Four, at that time. Long Beach State would go on to win two more national titles in women's volleyball---1993 and 1998. However, because of the aforementioned achievments, the 1989 NCAA Championship match will always be the best collegiate volleyball match of all time.

I know it's because I'm a Purdue fan but Oct. 8 2010, Purdue defeats #4 Penn State in front of a packed crowd by coming back down 0-2 sets at home. It was Purdue's first ever win against a top 5 opponent and first against PSU since 1987. It was a landmark win and a stepping stone for the program to what it has become. PSU was technically #4 but they felt like #1 at the time, being that it was in the midst of their four-peat championship run. Most exciting match I've ever seen even though it wasn't a regional, semi, or a final. Boiler Up!
