Neal is a bit of an enigma. Thought her jump serve would be one of her greatest contributions to the team, but she seemed to lose a lot of confidence in it her freshman season, and didn't use it at all last season. Hope she can find a way to utilize her skills for the team's sake, but it seems as if she is still holding out hope to be a D-1 hitter. Don't think Jerritt is helping her in the long run by letter her play OH every now again (against weaker opponents) as that just takes away her focus from the back row, IMO.

I also think so too Southie, I love her jump serve, it can take a team out of it's offense as much as any top server in the NCAA, but it wasn't utilized for some reason. Elliott tends to "change" things so much in pre-season with athletes instead of working his changes in maybe his 1st couple of matches and then sticking with it and practicing day in and day out his game plans. Amy was brought in to Texas as a DS, not an OH, I can see her as D-1 hitter but not for a team like Texas, a team that makes final fours and plays in the same sand box as PSU, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Stanford, Washington, Illinois, USC, Florida --if I'm missing any, I'm not meaning to-- just saying she's not Wisconsin's Morales nor Washington's Strickland who rockets her serve and hits well against big teams. Remember Angie Pressey (sp) with Cal, small OH but crushes the ball at all angles and hit well against tough competition. That's not Amy, whether she likes it or not, she can put up number like .432 against UTEP or Seattle with 0 errors but that won't happen against others Texas matches up with....she couldn't even get it passed our own block. That's why I say " if she were only a few inches talker" she'd be perfect at Texas as a 6 rotation OH, but she isn't. Everyone has their opinions, but I believe she's a good OH at SMU or Sam Houston, or Tech or maybe even A&M at best where only once in a while do these teams play big D1 schools vs. Texas who plays a mediocre conference yet in the end has to be at their best to play in final fours. You get what I'm saying? LOL...hard to explain, I guess what I'm saying is I like her arm and serve but as a D-1 hitter Texas is the wrong place for her and I think she found out quick that it wasn't Lake Travis anymore.

Neal was probably told to quit the jump serve like what happened to Sarah Palmer after her problems with her jump serve her sophomore year.
Can only think Elliott was counting on Baker as a reliable OH before Neal. Too bad about Amy - - she is very good at reading the block when she hits. A very smart player.

Neal is not the answer to the outside for Texas, however she doesn't always hit miserably against good competition. She had 10 kills and hit .340 against the national champions last year. Id say that's pretty good. Once again, I do not think she's the next outside on the depth chart, but she isn't as bad as people make her out to be. Maybe just more inconsistent than anything.
