Free stream courtesy of Big Sky: www.americaonesports.com/bigskyplayer.asp?aptid=41I think this is tonight's only match. Go Ducks! Taylor Agost getting the start tonight at M1, so all 3 Portland girls playing in the homecoming (not that Eugene is so far).

Nice chance for Brenner to play close to friends and family in her senior year.

Oregon takes Set 1, 25-22. Floor defense not up to snuff at all, high roll shots dropping. I know it's just Portland St., but ya gotta play every point.

'Twas ugly. Passing and defense (particularly against tips and rolls) was way off. It's a Monday match against an unheralded team after a big weekend, so I understand the team coming out flat. That said, I wouldn't want to be at practice tomorrow. Lol. I think the team's gonna hear a lot of talk about focus and playing every point.

Missed the first 3/4 of the match, how did Agost do? Blocked and served well. Her offense isn't there yet. Still very high on her future

Eh Portland State taking a set off them doesn't sound great. Also set scores being close. I think a lot of teams lose focus this season and playing unfocused against the wrong team in the PAC can lead to an unexpected loss.

The Vikings are not a bad squad. They may be the best 2-win squad in the country. They are the 2013 Regular Season Big Sky Champs, they scheduled a tough pre-season last year too. They beat Idaho State two times in the regular season but lost to the Bengals in the Big Sky Championship. (Idaho State took a set off Hawai'i in the NCAA Tournament)
Portland State has played a pretty tough schedule thus far... #5 Washington (9-0) Colorado (8-1) Cal State Northridge (7-2) (RV) Oklahoma (8-2) #14 Oregon (9-0)
Those are all understandable losses... They did lose 3-1 to Gonzaga but heck Gonzaga is 7-2 and took #5 Washington to 5 sets, and they lost to Pittburgh ... but Pittsburgh is 9-1 with a lone loss to Colorado.. Their only REALLY bad loss is Boise State..
Now, Portland State is going to face a very solid, undefeated (9-0) Loyola Marymount team, and Washington State (7-2) who hung tough with Illinois.. The Vikings will be 2-10 but their Opponent's win percentage is going to be pretty high!

A lot of non starters end up leaving from Oregon because the next years recruits push them out. She recognizes that she is still learning the game. Her blocking is already scary good; she just needs to work on timing and footwork on offense. It's not like we run a basic 4-1-5 either - it takes time. I'm very excited she's a Duck and can't wait to see how good she gets. Crittenden and Nady came in similarly raw and didn't start last year, but now they're both hitting over .300 and putting up a monster block. Bettendorf didn't start her first year either (and it's funny because of how many times you said she should transfer to Portland St. -- before she also started hitting .300).

Very true and good for Martenne for sticking it out. But I also said she would be a better right side for Oregon. I haven't seen enough of Agost, but I'm hoping it doesn't discourage her that she's not getting the playing time.

If she had not started playing volleyball just three or four years ago she would be special today. The Ducks can only hope that she is being honest with herself about her current skill set and has the work ethic that will allow her skills to catch up with her awesome athleticism, kind of like Martenne has. As we all know the Pac12 has its reputation for a reason. Taylor needs not to give in to the conference's reputation, but she needs to respect it and I think she does. I also think that this years team chemistry, on and off the court, is unique and Taylor fits right in. Go Ducks!
