Orpheus...it's clear you are not a Chloe fan nor do you have a clue about the game. I would think that if you truly understood, both Collins & Dalton compliment each other and the Texas team. I would hope that Elliott & his staff know what they are doing as that's why you are on this board and not in the coaching seat. Great win Longhorns, Signed, Chloe Fan Eh, I disagree with your summation of me. I've only commented on Chloe and the Texas offense in the narrow context of this one match. Ignoring your broad conclusions about me, I don't disagree that Elliot and co. are better suited to call the shots than either of us, and I certainly appreciate a former coach taking up for her ex player. That Collins and Dalton "compliment" each other and the team is very sweet. Here's hoping their skills complement each other on the court.

Glad to get the win on the road. In hindsight, it was good the match went 5 sets and the Huskers pushed Texas; good to see the 'Horns dig deep and fight through things.

Solely based on stats, Collins looks to be the better option!! But i agree that they complement each other and 6-2 should stay!!! Assists digs blocks Ball handling errors! Collins 25 8 0 0 Dalton 22 10 0 3!

Both Dalton & Collins struggled all match, way to inconsistent and got one dimensional. Setting location was all over the place and Chi got some crud sets to work with, too low usually. Texas passing dare I say was pretty good so the two setters can't use that as an excuse. I'll take an ugly W but Texas has lots of work before December.

I'm of the opinion Texas has far less attacking options than many think.
If Amy Neal is the lead option as the 2nd OH, this team will be in trouble at the regionals.
I like Collins, but the volleyball height limitations for her and Neal are a problem at Texas. I was hoping someone would talk height. If you talk to the right people, the intangibles that Collins has, makes up for it. Penn State won a National Championship with 5'6" Carpenter setting a 5-1. The 5'7" OH for Wisconsin destroyed Texas last year in the semi-finals. Need I say more? And the year after Penn State won that national championship with Carpenter, was she the setter the following season or the season after that?
And did you watch Wisconsin against USC and Washington Friday and Saturday? How did the 5'7" OH do? Oh that's right, she's not playing OH anymore.
The law of averages will catch up with them at a major volleyball program.
Look at Neal today - - started great and steadily played average the rest of the match. That is nothing against her work ethic or as a person, it's just reality.
If Dalton is going to set for this team, it needs to be in a 5-1 to take advantage of her hitting and blocking skills on the front row. This is especially true if Elliot is not going to play Prieto on the RS. McCage can play RS, but this means Hattis or Mirta at middle which means the setters are instructed not to set them. Texas may get by with this against lesser opponents but they will be exposed against the top teams. I watched Wisconsin and Washington this weekend and they will take advantage of Texas.

I'm happy for the win and glad that Texas was pushed to 5 sets.
I really miss playing the Huskers on an annual basis. There are lots of things for both teams to work on but I'm sure both will only get better as the season progresses.
For Texas, hitting at .189 in the match shows that the 6-2 isn't going to cut it to do well in the post-season. I'm assuming it's going to be put to rest.
The problem I'm seeing is which setter Jerritt goes with.
I think Chloe is capable of running the 5-1 efficiently, but her blocking in the front row against elite teams makes me cringe. And right now, Nicole doesn't look physically ready to handle full-time setting duties that would require her to block in the front row. She was slow chasing balls, getting up from the floor, and getting back into position. Plus, she was grimacing on the side-lines when she was stretching out her hips when the camera panned to her. I'm a fan of Nicole but her inexperience as a setter showed with her ball handling errors, poorly located sets, and predictable decision making.
Amy continues to play better than expected. She got her kills in this match, but a big, disciplined block showed it can also shut her down. Pilar did well coming off the bench and provided a much needed spark playing on the RS. But if the offense continues to be left-side heavy in out of system plays with 2 blockers up, I'd like to see Paulina work in that spot given that's where she prefers to hit from. If she can be efficient there, then Amy and Pilar could DS for Haley and Paulina in the back row for passing/defense as well as add a back row attack option. If not, then the better of Amy/Pilar should start at OH2. It'd be great to keep Eckerman on the court to play all the way around, especially for her back row attack, but in all honesty, her passing and floor defense hasn't improved much from last year. And I'd rather them not revert back to the 2-person receive formations like last year...
I'd also like to see Bell stay on the right pin, play all the way around, serve, and be utilized in the back row for the D ball. Not sure how her passing on serve-receive is, but it couldn't hurt to help develop it during conference play.
Molly and Chiaka need to remain the starters at MB (M1 and M2 respectively) and let Sara and Mirta play in blow-outs.
It'll be interesting to see what line-up Jerritt develops during conference play. He always talks about hitting numbers that are good enough to compete for a National Championship, but the line-up he goes with this year will probably surprise some, myself included.

I think Texas might be sticking with the 6-2 a little longer because of Dalton's injury. A 5-1 with Collins makes no sense because of her height in the front row and possibly they don't want Nicole playing all the way around because of the wear and tear. From time to time you could still see Nicole on the sidelines whincing and stretching her hips. Hope she is healthy and this is just speculation on my part. Someone else mentioned it but I would also love to see Khat at OH. It wouldn't allow her to block as much as she does from MH and RS but I think she could be lethal from there

First of all, great job by Nebraska. They were clearly ready to play and their fans brought it (as they always do, but especially for Texas). They played with great confidence and fight.
Having said that, this is by far the worst Texas has looked all season...even worse than the Orange/White scrimmage before season started. But I must say that a great deal of it had to do with setter choices and location. I've been able to watch six of their eight matches, and until today the consistency has been pretty good (other than some of the sets to the right side falling inside...which especially stinks for two right-handed opposites). It's not good when your libero and DS bump set balls from behind the 10' line to the outside better than your setters do overhead with perfect passes!!! The middles weren't set nearly enough, and when they were they typically were not good.
But this is ONE match, and I can't imagine that it's easy to play in Lincoln. So I'm giving Dalton and Collins the benefit of the doubt. Dalton has been money all season til today and everybody in the country knows that Chloe can set her tail off. All of the 6-2 haters need to pull your panties out of your ass. I have NOT been a supporter of it in the past because the personnel was not good enough. This year there is the talent and the ball control to pull it off. Until today, the offense has been the most balanced it's been since I don't know when. We've even had matches where not one single hitter had double-digit kills! Why the heck do you think Neal has been as effective as she's been and won one tournament MVP and made All-Tourney in another?? Because of the balance and the threat of having weapons all along the net. The team hitting percentage is in the top 5 or 7 in the whole country (or at least it was til today...so much for that).
Now, is Hattis or Mirta the answer as the second middle? Of course not. Other than possibly Pilar at OH2 instead of Neal, the starting lineup in set one today ideally is the best option. If you saw last Saturday's matches, you know that Prieto can light it up on the RS and provides an emotional spark. Would I rather have a Tiffany Baker at 6'4" and her old self out there as OH2? Hellz yes, but the situation is what it is. I promise you, it's not going to be pretty if they go to a 5-1 and Neal is stuck on the front row with only one other hitter. But I have to give her some credit, she either worked her butt off in the off-season or got herself mentally together because she's been a completely different player this season.
So my two cents are, until it costs us a match go with it.

These officials are sucking (for both teams)... Pollmiller definitely had that ace. Linejudges are local. Deal with it. If calls are that obviously wrong the R1 would over rule.

First of all, both of these coaches should be ashamed of themselves. They have all the talent in the world at their disposal, but neither of them know what to do with it.
For Nebraska, I don't understand the rationale behind starting Pollmiller and redshirting Hunter. Pollmiller's setting and decision-making is a disaster. Hunter may not be all-world, but I have a hard time believing she's worse than Pollmiller. Did Cook learn anything from the disaster that was 2010?
I'm sick of seeing Jerritt start off EVERY SINGLE SEASON with a 6-2, drop it midway through the season, and completely implode come tournament time. Like, who are you? Do you have eyes? A brain? What's the matter with you? Figure out who your best players are, build a system that plays to their strengths, and TRAIN THEM.
If Rose, Sheffield, or Shoji were coaching any of these teams, they'd be unstoppable.
And if ONE MORE PERSON says something like "Collins is a good setter but she's short so we can't have her in the front row" I'm going to lose it. You know nothing about this sport. Stop spewing garbage on this forum.

I was really impressed with the balance against Arizona and felt Texas was underrated last weekend. After watching Washington and Wisconsin last night and then watching this crapfest today, neither team deserves a Top 10 ranking. Part of me thinks Jerritt manufactured drama with his lineup tinkering to test his team because today could be the last test they face until regionals. Who changes the lineup AT NEBRASKA after you win the first set? Does the Devaney Center not have AC? Our players were dripping in sweat and Cat McCoy looked like she had been hosed down during the 2nd set.

Stop spewing garbage on this forum. Would that be garbage like Texas "completely imploding come tournament time"? You are the biggest garbage spewer on this site and you prove yourself ahead of the pack by a mile when you call a team, that has been to 5 of the last 6 final fours and is two years removed from a National Championshp, imploders in the tournament. You really are a sad, little man.
