I don't think brown is even playing anymore. Think she gave it up. Think I saw article interview with her after last season at state and said she was ready to move on to other things in life and why not, 4 straight championships that's how u wanna go out if u have choice

Yes! Yes, yes, yes, yes! This is the kind of non-conference matches that people in Seattle have been starved for! The Huskies usually have to go somewhere else to get a match like this, but this time we finally got to host one ourselves.
So, obviously this was a big win for Washington, but I was really impressed with the play of both teams. Wisconsin played great, especially in bring balls up off the floor. For a lot of the night (especially the sets the Badgers won), they really frustrated the Huskies by digging up what should have been kills. They were amazing at that.
But the Huskies really frustrated the Badgers by reading their offense and blocking their attacks. I think the final tally was 574 blocks for the Huskies. (No? Well it seemed like it.)
The Dawgs fed a lot of the offense to the middles and through Tia Scambray for most of the night, which helped take the pressure off Vansant. But when they really, really needed a point, usually Vansant was able to come through for them and get the money kills. She was also digging and setting and of course blocking. I really thought she lived up to her NPOY tonight, as the anchor of the team when it really mattered.
The second RS spot is still a problem area, though. It's wide open for either Schwan or Jones to step it up and take that spot. The Huskies really need one of them to do so.
And the setting was much better tonight than last night, but that's still a work in progress. Also, the service game is not as sharp as it was last year. The Huskies are making more errors and getting fewer aces/overpasses/freeballs. But I think maybe when the offense comes together a little sharper that will give them a chance to focus more on the serving.
Like I said, though, I thought the Badgers also played great. Carlini is excellent, of course, and Courtney Thomas was outstanding. Their libero was really good back there too.
Both of these teams are going to win a lot of matches this year, and if they face each other again it could be right back here at Hec Ed (unless it is in the Final Four).
(Although if they do play again in the tournament they will not be playing on the Taraflex floor. Unless they were just doing it as a timewasting exercise, it seemed to really spook the Badgers. No team all year has been so insistent on wiping up the floor each and every time anyone touched it in any way. Do they do the same thing when they play on the floor at Nebraska?)

Great crowd turned out tonight. Great atmosphere. The Dawg Pack was full, even with classes not yet in session. Definitely played a part in energizing the Huskies' comeback from down 2-1.

Not surprised, Jones wasn't doing anything offensively. I have no idea why Jones' HS, club and now college coach have pulled her out of the middle. Well Jones isn't going to play middle at the UW this year or next year, unless something happens to Wade or Sybeldon. So if they can get her on court as an outside, that's the only way they can use her. So far, though, it's not been consistently successful.

No, as was later pointed out, they just started Beals in front on serve receive to save one substitution. But she's not bad up there.

Yes, totally. Lots of students who brought great energy to the crowd. Total attendance was over 3500. See Washington, you can draw some fans in September if you bring in good teams!

I actually wouldn't be surprised if JMac switched to a 5-1 - it would keep the better setter on the floor and solve the 2nd OPP issue. On the other hand, 22 blocks does show the strength of always having three blockers up. I thought the key was blunting Wiscy's slide, which pretty much destroyed Bricio and Gillis the night before.

I think all badger fans are excited to see Kriskova. I noticed her on the roster because I have a frenemy (a friend who works for Airbus) who is from Slovakia. But she didn't play this weekend, and it sounds like she hasn't played at all? The way you said this make me wonder if she is injured.

Kriskova is injured. She had her knee scoped a couple of weeks before the season and was practicing but apparently pushed it a bit too hard and had a setback. As far as I know, they still expect her back at some point.

I am disappointed the Badgers lost, as it would have been probably the best true road win in program history in terms of rankings, but I think it is a match that will end up serving both teams well down the road, as Sheffield's comments indicated. Obviously, the biggest question for the Badgers remains the blocking. I don't expect them to be great with their lack of size at some positions, but I hope they can improve over worst in their league at some point. It also looked like Bates had a bit of a rough night, but I am sure she will make some adjustments and bounce back from it. It happens to everyone at some point. Heck, I think Hodge hit zero in Madison as a freshman. Otherwise, I am glad that the Badgers were able to slow down Vansant for the most part, although, as one would expect, the play by play showed her coming up with kills at a couple of key junctures. After making some left sides look like All Americans last weekend, it is good they fared better against the genuine article this weekend. At any rate, I hope the Badgers learn from this, but it should help them prepare for their next match and their battles down the road. Congratulations to the Huskies on the win, and I am glad the fans got a good match to watch.

All I know is she was player of the year in ACC....is she the badgers answer at the outside?

When I wrote the poll question, I was trying to be funny calling this game EPIC.
It wasn't Ali vs. Norton or Gettysburg epic, but for Washington pre-conference this was epic-esque.
