I have no idea why Jones' HS, club and now college coach have pulled her out of the middle. Well Jones isn't going to play middle at the UW this year or next year, unless something happens to Wade or Sybeldon. So if they can get her on court as an outside, that's the only way they can use her. So far, though, it's not been consistently successful. I believe she played middle a year or two in high school, but then she was needed at the pins. If she didn't play at the pins, I believe her team wouldn't have done as well as they did those seasons. It's unfortunate for her because she has two players ahead of her who are playing better than she is at the middle position.

Who has seen the all american outside transfer for Wisconsin that hasn't played yet this year cause of injury? All I know is she was player of the year in ACC....is she the badgers answer at the outside? Kriskova was the A-10 player of the year last year. Haven't seen much about her but I think her height alone and international experience should help the team.

First, congrats to washington. Sounds like it was a heck of a game that I would have loved to watch, dagnabbit.
Some cold stats really stand out. Blocking obviously. It looks like the match against Texas last year. As that game showed, wiscy can still win such matches if the floor defense is solid and the serving puts the other team out of system a lot, reducing their meaningful attacks. It looks like that sort of happened to a degree - though it may have been more subtle. The large difference in digs offset the effect of blocks on hitting percentage -- so that hitting percentage was about even (.240-.238 wiscy-washy) through the third set. Granted, blocks give you points while digs don't, but those blocking points were offset by the fact wiscy had 23 more attack attempts than Wash, and more attempts in every set, except the last. That would seem to suggest washy was out of system a lot -- or had poor setting at times. Basically that sounds like wiscy's game plan in action, albeit against a good team who held up pretty well and played to their strengths. We could win that match but it would be close and could go the other way.
What really tuned the match was that it really looks like we had one of our stinker sets in the 4th. I looked through the play-by-play and there are a lot of hitting errors that seemed to turn attacks and possible points for into points against. I didn't see it so I can't tell how many of these are forced by bad sets or by a tough block or out of system attacks. Bates in particular had a hard time. Carlini does have this admirable tendency to almost immediately set to players who have had a hitting error, and it looks a little like that happened here, but I can't see the non-scoring plays so I don't know.
Anyway, these kind of sets have been cropping up from time to time this preseason and we've got away with them before. But at a critical time in the match against a good team, that can be deadly. I'm not sure if we got tired, or let up a little mentally after winning set 3, or whether washy did something different. Anyway, there will be something to learn there.
There were lots of service errors on both sides. If either had been able to get rid of some of those and maintain aggression, it may have changed the game. Finally, I see Fricano got into the game at one point. What was that about? An attempt to let Bates breathe a bit?

Can we start using Washy all the time as a Husky nickname? Or just when they play Wisky?

And a well designed thread will have all the appropriate links for following the match. Instead of making people looking on their own. (Hint hint) Great matchups, but jeez second time in a row Badgers get to board a plane from SeaTac with a heartbreaking loss. I do see this as agood growth opportunity. I only got the radio feed, but I could tell Chapman and Bates struggled. So proud of this team, though, and special shoutout to Thomas who has just been rock solid from the right this season. Agree that the "12:30" finish certainly did not help. Quite frankly, too, the travel back, the loss, and PSU's cupcake weekend dont bode well for Wed.

Now, now, if PSU doesn't schedule cupcakes in the pre-conference, they won't get a chance to practice beating up on cupcakes before they have to do it in the initial rounds of the NCAA tournament.

She has a very heavy arm, quick swing and very good serve. the badgers will have a different feel and look in a month. It should be interesting.

Really? The cupcake talk again. I thought that ended after psu went thought almost all pac and big schools in tourney last year. Additionally, yes they are way more talented then the teams they're playing this weekend but 4 games is 4 games. Drains u anyway

We love having the Badgers in Seattle. A high quality program, great players and good fans. I was hoping the Husky band would play "roll out the barrel" (as the Badger pep band does) at some point just to make them feel welcome. I believe this match will give WI an emotional edge against PSU on Wednesday. Granted, they will be tired by the time they get back to Madison, but after losing such a close contest they will have an extra incentive to dominate the replay last years championship match. They will have home court advantage this time. If Morey continues with her ability to be positioned exactly where the ball is going or in several places at once as observed last night in Seattle, the Badgers will be able to defend PSUs attack.
