It's so bizarre how some people let certain posts bother them - especially when those posts are not even directed towards that person. Example: kro2488. No one is telling you to open this website and then forcing you to read these posts. If you don't like what is posted on this website then open another one. It's pretty simple. Just a suggestion. You didn't ask for it. I gave it. I gave my... opinion, which in turn, is one of the objectives of this website, no? ( So bizarre, don't you think?!)Didn't kro2488 recently post on this website: "...Why do I even post in this forum? I'm the idiot..."Don't be so hard on yourself, kro2488. Life is too short to be such a pessimist - certainly at the age of 26. But let's stay, somewhat, on topic of this thread, shall we? Some are rooting for a comeback to the USA team from Hooker and some are not. And guess what? They ALL have the right to state their opinion on Volley Talk, whether the topic is new or old. Hooker is here to stay! And I'm sure there will be supplemental conversation regarding Hooker in the years to come. Oh, and if Hooker is mentioned in this thread it may be due to the fact that USA played against Russia today. Hooker has played against Russia and WITH a Russian club team. Perhaps Hooker was mentioned on this thread because Kiraly clearly is still searching for a player to replace someone like her at the net and the number of kills she can get in a match. Hooker is not permanently out of the question about rejoining the team. If she was, then sure, it may be time for us to move on. But that is not the case quite yet. There is a connection.Seriously? The @$@%%!!$ did I just read ? Really??? Were you hyped on coffee when you spouted this off? Hopefully you got it off your chest

And I thought maybe those who are fans of the unsaid player could start their own thread about her. And stay on the topic of the USA Team and the WCH. Is that really so hard to do.

I feel like this match could be a great turning point for the team though, to see them digging tips and diving everywhere was very satisfying. Just hope they can keep it up.

USA, Russia, Brazil, Serbia, Turkey and Bulgaria. What an unfair pool, for each one of these teams. Meanwhile the other pool has only China as a favorite.

Thank you. Passing was perfectly fine without krob, and so was our attack. Against top opponents, Kelsey should not be playing , unless absolutely needed I agree, unfortunately. Everyone, including myself, had really high expectations for Kelsey, and she's not living up to them. Hate to say it, but she reminds me of Hildebrand. Although Hill's been playing well, we're still weak at the OH2 position. We need someone who can pass well, play defense, and not make so many errors on offense. I always thought Danielson would do well in this role, especially with the kind of offense Karch is running now. However, it doesn't look like she has any interest in playing for the NT. I don't think Robinson is a disappointment at all. Honestly, the big reason she's not starting isn't so much about her play but that Hill is playing well, holding up on serve receive, and not really opening the door for her to get on the court. Rob-o had a great debut, but that was not against strong/interested (in case of USAV Cup) teams, and the book is out on her so she needs to work to improve. I'm not ready to write her off though. She has a huge advantage in passing and defending, which are very good for a U.S. outside. She's some improvements in the float serve away from locking down Lichtman's roster spot going into 2015. Offense and net play will be a challenge for her to get time at L2, and that's the big differentiator between her and Hill right now, but if she can improve her offense at the same pace Hill has (who added significant heat and range of shots) there's no reason to think it won't be a competition. And hey, 4 outsides make Rio, so barring a surge from someone still in college she's already in position with a chance to get better. Hill and Robinson's play does seem to shut the door for Hildebrand, though.

After watching the first 3 sets, a few observations:
1. Glad to see grumpy Gamova playing for Russia. Notice how he is allowed to pout after every mistake she makes.... AND grouch at her players for every mistake they make. 2. All the topspin jump servers for USA have abandoned it to the jump float. This is a pretty big change. 3. Much better defense of the tip and roll shot to the middle. 4. Where is the bic or middle back offense? I don't think I saw one. 5. Did Foluke get set anything OTHER than a slide? Why is this? She was kinda invisible this match. 6. Murphy goes aggressive on every play. I think this is starting to show good results. I would really like to see her more of a factor at blocking. 7. Kim Hill had a nice match. For the most part, very smart attacking.
Overall, great win for the team. It was an entertaining match. I thought both teams played fairly well.

And I like the change we seem to be getting the other teams in passing trouble more often this way. 3. Totally agree 4. There were some d sets, but your right for whatever reason Glass chose not to set Murphy over the middle of the floor from the backrow. I've noticed it catches the tape and gets slowed down when she attacks from there sometimes, I think if Glass raised the middle back attack slightly higher that wouldn't happen. The front row because of the quality of passing and digging was able to get enough kills that it didn't matter as much though. When the passing is more shaky conistently is where we have problems only using the back-row attack sparingly. Even with the really fast pin sets out of system will we be predictable and get stuffed more often if we have nothing over the middle of the floor for the opposing middle to worry about. 5. Maybe it had to do with blocking match ups and creating space for hitters? 6. Ya i'd like to see her only tip as a very last resort

Did anyone notice in the final timeout in set 4 that a trainer/asst coach hands Gamova something and she sniffs it and gives it back? Any idea what this is?? Just curious

I know she used them in London during the Brazil semi final match because she was a little under the weather. Maybe she just uses them to calm herself now. Im not too sure.

Brett Favre was a big user of smelling salts. Gives you a mental boost.

Of course, a stick would also give Brett a mental boost. Doesn't take much.

Kro's afraid "VT" negativity regarding Karch and his team culture will spill out into the real world. He fails to understand the opposite is true, VT's only reflecting the current NT reality and this kumbaya pretense won't win Rio and most likely any other significant tourney beforehand. This insidious idea here of elite players showing politically incorrect emotion on the court as some measurement of the player having moral character flaws is ridiculous. Men and women go to war on the court as they should, but I've yet to see anyone from any NT intend malicious vitriol upon their teammates. Obviously players get frustrated in the moment with others, but what elite player worth their salt making a bad error would want their teammates to repress their reactions. It's bad enough Hooker clammed up in London against Brazil, yet Karch wants the team to have a clam culture prerequisite? Biggest bag of hot wind and amateur pyschological BS to come down the pike in quite a while.

I could be wrong about USA getting to the WC finals if Glass doesn't play poorly along the way, regardless I'd still wager Brazil to win. My psychological analysis is correct though.
