It still strikes me as counterproductive to the sport to put VB matches on TV at 11 a.m. Pacific Time on Sundays. Why compete head-to-head with the heart of the NFL TV juggernaut? If you need to schedule Sunday matches, why not do it at 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. when there's only one NFL game still being played. NFL and, also, church. But they probably can't do 6 or 7 PM on Sundays because the students do have to travel back to be in class on Monday morning. Gotta let the poor kids get some rest in at some time.

Well, if you play on Sunday morning you can probably have the visiting students in their classrooms back home on Monday morning. Might not be as easy to do that if you play Sunday night. But really it seems to be more about the college football schedule than the NFL schedule. In the fall, it is pretty obvious that college football is the product the PAC-12 network is selling, and all other sports are filler. Volleyball is actually fairly privileged because it seems to be treated as the #2 priority, generally speaking. I bet soccer or cross-country et al. wish they got treated as well by the PAC-12 network as volleyball is.

I seem to remember hearing when Colorado joined the Pac 12- that the standard Friday/ Sunday schedule is to minimize the days the players miss from school? So, this scheduling question seems to be a dilemma/ balancing act of what's better for the players as players vs. what's better for the players as students.
I believe when CU was in the Big 12 (and it looks like from Iowa State's schedule it's still true), their typical game days are Wednesday and Saturday. This obviously leads to more rested athletes and so I assume better quality matches, but for road trips means (assuming you aren't flying back between games in the same week which wouldn't make sense), the players miss more than 1/2 a week of classes (travel day Tuesday, proabably until noon or later Sunday).
With technology today, and me being old, I don't know how much technology (streamed classes, etc.) might mitigate the education damage done from being on the road and not campus?

Fri/Sat (which is what they used to do) is better than Fri/Sun. But obviously you can't play the matches on Saturday in the TV era or else you end up never showing them live, because there are 6+ PAC-12 football games to be shown live on Saturday.

There was also the old argument that the Big 12 was hurt by their scheduling when it came to the NCAA tournament, because the NCAA matches are played on back-to-back nights (except for the Final Four). So there was some thought that scheduling the regular season matches on back-to-back nights helped prepare the team for that. But it was hard to prove either way.

Last season they had Southern Cal playing a couple of 11 AM home sunday matches just for television and hardly anybody showed up.

If you look at the schedule, Cal at serious risk of being 0-18 heading into the match against WSU. (WSU could possibly be 0-18 themselves.)

What a pathetic match that would be. Let's hope their records aren't that bad by the end of season.

Announcers in UW/OSU match said that PAC-12 has six of the last 13 national titles. Doesn't PSU also have six of the last 13 national titles all by themselves?

Apparently Bricio is now the career ace leader for USC -- as a junior. Didn't want to leave it to the last moment, I guess.
