SC wins in 4 (25-21, 17-25, 25-19, 25-21)
- Bricio: 18 kills, 17 digs, 3 aces - Schonewise: (.312) 14 kills - Higgins: (.280) 18 kills
Nwanebu's last two matches: OSU: .513 (20-0-39) CAL: .315 (20-3-54) Total: .397 (40-3-93)
Taylor Whittingham with 31 digs too, averaging 7.75 dps. Pretty impressive! The connection between Pizzasegola and Ogoms is much improved too, so that's nice. And hahaha at that little love tap to the face of Ogoms by Pizzasegola at match point, she gave her a little mob boss mean mug at the end and caressed her face in approval. Such an Italian thing to do!

What a big difference in passing between Gillis and Ruddins. Ruddins played pretty good in this match and it really showed how good of an OH she can be with more reps under her belt, even when they lost the 2nd game they were passing OK.Nwanebu finally heating up is a good sign for SC.

Looks like Nwanebu is finding her fiorn again. If she starts playing like the AA she was last year everyone better watch out for SC.

I wonder if these Pac 12 coaches are getting sick of seeing the same people on the other sideline year after year. Haley (USC), Feller (CAL), Dunning (STAN), Liskevych (OSU), Moore (ORE), McLaughlin (UW), they're all starting to look the same! Ha Rubio is no spring chicken, either. Years ago I attended a Stanford chalk talk before an SC match where Dunning clearly was quite familiar with Haley and vice versa; got to be worse, now. Utah coach was well before the merger and even Sealy is in his fifth or sixth year. No surprises.

Crone can't set and Gillis can't pass. I think both are fine players, probably more mental at this part of the season. I know bench time will help their mental strength. Both "SC and Cal seems to be playing better in game 3.... 'SC is up 9-5 right now... I have never been a Crone fan but the statement that she cannot set is harsh! I think her setting is actually better than Pizzasegola but Pizzasegola has greater potential for improvement and we can already see that. Crone is not mentally strong and having switched to the moonball has diminished her ability as a setter who was used to running a fast offense. I was very surprised when USC offered her the job as i did not see a good fit there...

I wonder if Mick is already projecting the 5-2 out to next year with Johnson (but whither Abercrombie then?)

I am guessing Sary wouldn't switch her style to the deep dish moonball

Sary was close to being burned out on the sport by the time she got to USC, and getting jerked around by Haley her freshman year was the straw that broke the camel's back. I certainly haven't gotten the impression she misses volleyball.
If Strehlow had gone to USC, I wager she would have pulled a Burnham and ended up sand-only by her junior year.

Emily Young bad in the backrow, Pizzasegola bad in the front row. Young will be gone next season. I haven't seen Johnson yet but I would guess that the 6-2 would be the plan.

If Mick were a more inventive type, he'd at least experiment with Japan's Hybrid 6 and play with 1 middle and 4 pins for 2015.

True, but she couldn't have lasted any less time in USC's indoor program than she did UCLA's.

USC is surely one of those programs that a seeded team does NOT want to see in their subregional. They are kind of inconsistent now, but only have room to grow, and if Nwanebu finds her groove, and they steady out the setting, this team will be a tough out. I hope they get sent away to knock off a big 10 powerhouse...I'm looking at you Illinois or Nebraska Mick finally is realizing that no matter how hyped Gillis was coming out of HS, she's not ready for college right now (which is ok).

I'd imagine they'd head to BYU or one of the Florida schools if unseeded, but I also wouldn't put it past them to pull out a seed. They're playing better and 11-9 or 12-8 could do it with their schedule.
