Morey was spectacular (also a Sheffield recruit). Where 's the2013 Chapman? She is being conservative again.
Wong is a great libero. Nebraska 's big problem seems to be no serve receive and little middle production as a result. K Rolfzen is great.

For those that watched on tv, at intermission, about 25 vb alumnae were introduced, including many from the 2005-2008 era. Biggest cheer: Maria Carlini. Shields, Dolgner, and the Wacks got nice welcomes. They were facing the othet way and the PA is lousy so I couldn't catch them all. A picture was taken so when it gets posted we can sort if out. Graff and Ito included on the intros. Edit: Link to photo. www.uwbadgers.com/view.gal?id=168612

Wish I were there! What a trip down memory lane. Maria Carlini should have been given an award for her help in recruiting Lauren.

Let's see, looks like Caity DuPont, Audra Jeffers are among those I recognize. Maybe Taylor Reineke? She and Jeffers have seen a lot of sun, so I am not sure. Megan Mills?
I'm pretty sure the big cheer for M. Carlini was because of her "recruiting." I was looking at a couple of rosters from that 2005-2010 era - filled with Wisconsites/Milwaukee Sting. This roster - 0. Boy, imagine if someone had/has scored a Carlini jersey from UW Swap! They had names on them for a year or two.
Carlini is Canadian, of course, but now lives in Milwaukee. I think Shields and AWack are here at UW. I think the average height of females in the building went up 3 inches!

Great match by Wisconsin, they play so fluidly, and their floor defense is so great, and with Carlini, the hitters are always in position to get kills. A fun team to watch!
Nebraska is still missing an emotional leader out on the court, and I think this is where we miss Robo the most at times. I like Fien at the second OH spot with Kadie, she mixes up her shots so much better than Ostrander, and she is playing with a lot of confidence right now. I think she deserves to get some starts. Still so frustrated with Mary. She never sets a 1 to the middles. Everyone can blame our middles some what, but you can't continue to blame them if they never get the ball. Even when we were down a bunch in set 3, Mary was still just chucking high balls up to the OH. I just don't understand that logic. It was good to see Kadie play well too. I thought Amber played better, but she still makes a lot of errors and her connection with Mary has never been there. I'm hoping a week with Maryland and Rutgers gives us some time to work out all the kinks before the 2nd half of conference play!

It is so good for the losing streak against the Huskers to finally be over. A lot of frustration there. On the good side, this Badger team has been pretty good at killing bad streaks for the program. Of course, there is another one on Wednesday, so it doesn't get easy in this league. Otherwise, I thought the Badgers hung in there and did a good job of finding ways to win today despite being a little off with their offense. Carlini's kills obviously helped with that (and probably a blown call at a key juncture). Otherwise, it was another match out of the Badger playbook. Serve tough, get teams out of system, defend like mad, and get kills from everyone. Morey was back to being great defensively after an off match against Iowa. The block for the Badgers is clearly improving, which is a good sign. Carlini did another good job running the offense; you just can't let the Badgers get three point passes or digs to her and expect good things to happen for you consistently. Thomas and Bates had some emphatic kills when they got split blocks. I am hoping the Badgers can get more production from Chapman, but she seems to be getting a lot of the out of system sets and at least keeps most of those in play. I know it could be a desire to avoid errors, which has been a theme through much of her career, but I also wonder if they want her to just keep the ball in play in a lot of those situations, thinking they can win the points with their defense. At any rate, it is hard to quibble much with a team that has dropped one set in its last nine league matches.
As for Nebraska, they probably didn't get the benefit of a couple of key calls, but they just weren't in system enough to win today, and Wisconsin kept their block off balance. Kadie Rolfzen was the best offensive player on the court today, in my opinion, but she didn't have great opportunities for the most part. Fien had some nice swings, as did Amber Rolfzen and Haggerty, but it is going to be hard to beat Wisconsin with so many broken plays. I felt Ostrander had very little to work with, as the sets to her seemed to keep dying inside in the first set. Wong-Orantes came up with some big digs, but the Badgers avoided her in serve receive, which I take to be a sign of respect.
At any rate, I am thrilled with the win, but as Sheffield says, there are no first half champion medals. Purdue won't be at all easy, so the Badgers will need to be ready for another battle on Wednesday.

I think this is becoming more and more obvious. Sheff sees no point in taking risks when the defense can work it's miracles. I think they see Chappy as a safe out who may get a kill. She gets a lot of junk.

She had good sets she with split blocks and didn't do much with them.

Hmmm...OK. Will be interesting to hear what Sheff says if anything about her. He was positive last week.

You are reading quite a bit into this. I always thought Waite was pointing to these past two years. Carlini really doesn't need Waite or Sheffield. I've known Waite since he was at NIU. He is a terrific person. I'm sure everyone feels same about Sheffield. Everyone I knew said Waite was a really class guy. I do not understand what happened after that disappointment in 2007. No one has been able to explain it to me. UW often started OK then completely flamed out most seasons, as if they didn't improve during the season. It's hard to argue with Sheffs results though, and especially his ability to knit this team together. Granted, he has a lot of help, buts he rally knows how to use it. I disagree that they flamed out "most seasons." Really I think it was just one painful season, 2007. Granted, they started out "hot" his last couple years, but that's because they were playing the Sisters of the Poor and those wins were not representative of their actual talent level (which is to say, average). There was the 2009 9-match losing streak, but I think that was in part fueled by injury/illness. Again, not the greatest team. As for the rest of the season, they go 7 out of 10 on the road (thanks, schedulers...). Purdue x2, Illinois, OSU the toughest matchups, Michigans always dangerous, Indiana usually plays them tough, Iowa on the road is surprisingly difficult, and...Rutgers. See you in Bloomington, Badgers!

So I watching the match again. Chapman had a lot out of system sets. She did not have a lot to work with. Especially set 1

That was my memory too. I think they tend to set to her when oos. They trust her not to lose points.
