Better to lose now than in the semi-finals of the tournament...I guess. For Texas, I vote for both scenarios happening.

Well with Oklahoma getting 8 services aces and Texas committing 14 service errors, It's not a secret where most of this match was determined.
what happened to Neal?

The match was lost in set 1 when Texas was cruising but kept OU in the set with all the service errors followed by Victoria's meltdown in the back row.

Maybe in Norman someone might have predicted a 5-set UT loss...but losing in 3 at Gregory? Could anyone have seen this coming?

Damn. Each of the last few weeks I've been predicting Texas to lose in PTW. The one time I go with conventional wisdom, and they lose. At home. In 3.

Box Score
Postgame Comments
Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott
On how the team came out and played: I thought we did fine. It was 14-10 in game one, we missed seven serves in game one and that kind of became a stress level for us and carried over to all parts of the game. We were never able to get the composure that we needed and we were on our heels from that point on. We were trying to break through it and Oklahoma played well and made plays.

Do not let Victoria nor Chi serve, neither can play back row eit her Chiaka doesn't play back row. I don't think her serving was a problem tonight?? But Khat Bell was serving in set 3 - - she hasn't served much this year, if at all.
The problem for Elliott was, with Neal hurt, he didn't have any viable options when Victoria melted down. Out of desperation, he want to Baker in set 2 but she was even worse in the back row and Elliott had to put Victoria back in. It was so bad, I was ready for him to sub in 5'4" walk-on Palladino but who would play front row?
I didn't see any adjustments in set 3 other than Bell serving, but maybe I missed them.
Question - Would it have been better in set 3 to keep in Eckerman in the back row all 3 rotations and sub Brooks for Victoria in the back row? I know Eckerman isn't great in the back row, but you'd be trading 2 extra rotations for Eckerman in the back row for not having Victoria in the back row for 3 rotations. That would also keep Eckerman as an option for the back row attack.
I felt for McCoy in the back row, especially when Victoria stepped in front of her a couple of time and either shank the ball or make a poor pass. There was also the play where McCoy made a superb save near the stands on a Victoria shank only to have the ball go to Victoria behind the 10' line where Victoria ended up trying to pass the ball over the net instead of bumping it. She ended up being called for a double hit.

So Texas was +4 points in attacks, but Oklahoma was +10 points from the service line, and they won by +6 overall. That seems pretty straightforward!

Coach Santiago Restrepo was something else during the match, especially during set 3. He smelled burnt orange blood and worked his team beautifully.

Sorry Texas fans for your bad sports day. As I expected, I looked it up and found that Austin has several craft breweries. I suggest some good beer and good food as a cure. Maybe some live music. Those are wise words of advice my friend. Drowning your sorrows in a fine micro-brew is a good way to go. Sit back and look at the suds sitting atop your glass, then contemplate all the problems in this wacky crazy world. How does a home Texas loss to a pretty respectable Oklahoma team measure up? That's right, it is pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Forget this one oddball loss. Texas will still win the BIG-12, probably end the season with one loss, and get a top 4 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Clean up the service errors Texas should win. Longhorns are still a top 8 team in the country. I wonder how far they will fall in the coaches poll. A sweep at home is hard to judge and Oklahoma is not a walk over that is a good team.
