That’s who I was thinking. Note: I know nothing about her intentions. But if the predicted mass exodus from Terpland occurs, and ay2013 is corrrct that Washington might see one or more transfers, I’d think Dreschel to be a likely candidate. Kid literally crossed the country to play for Aird. Yeah, blah blah commit to the school not the coach, but he’s leaving. If the rumors of Milana’s departure are true as well, then theoretically there’s not as much keeping Dreschel so far away from home. Turn that M upside down and color it purple! I have no idea if Adam or anyone else is staying, but would it change your opinion if he was? Possibly. It sounds like Aird wants to bring Adam with him. Per the VBMag interview: "Aird and he wife Brandy have three young children. He said he hopes to bring his Maryland staff with him, but there are a lot of variables, not the least of which is one assistant, Kristin Carpenter, is pregnant, while the wife of associate head coach Adam Hughes is also pregnant." In general, the best thing Maryland can do to retain players is to get a strong replacement identified quickly, and have them reach out to the players individually and assure them that they will continue the trajectory and culture that Aird had created. The reason I keyed in on Dreschel is that she's really, really far away from home; she has club connections to current Huskies including Lauren Sanders; and she's pretty good.

Hi Ms. Drechsel; Being from Bothell, you've probably seen the UW campus. But could you share this photo with Gia, just in case she hasn't been out this way. Thanks. Happy New Year! (Oh, I think this photo was taken last week. Not sure.)

Does Washington have schollies available? Wouldn’t be surprised to see a certain Maryland player head back west of the Cascades. I believe UW has one scholly available. If true, one would have to transfer out for two to transfer in. JMac used to say he liked to keep a scholly in his pocket, in case a transfer who could contribute came knocking. If not, then he loaned the scholly to the most deserving walkon for a year. Cook is likely following the same script. While UW will be young, with five frosh coming in, they only have one obvious need: L/DS, either to step into the Libero role, with McPherson at DS, or backup McPherson at DS. That could be a walkon or a transfer.

Aird can do his part as well to try and keep that program whole by communicating with them about staying. I know other coaches have done this after leaving.

I’m excited to see what Cook does at a Washington now that the former coaches recruits are pretty much funneled out. What an unfortunate season for them with all of the injuries to such key players. But Washington has a great program and I expect them to be good once again.

Doesn't mean that a transfer couldn't come in and contribute (Dreschel), but they've got abundant bodies returning or coming in capable of playing the position: Returning: Bogomolova finally gets her chance. Coming in: Cole, Grote.

UW’s top target should first and foremost be an experienced libero, period. UW doesn’t have the arms to survive the pac12 with a sub par back row, see Arizona 2017. We got a look at what a McPherson, Bajema, Julye backrow looks like and it was NOT pretty. Factor in a new setter too. Oy Vey, Jesus take the wheel, I’m just counting the losses in my head and it’s making me want to drink.
We need a passer, and as much of a nice addition Dreschel may be, and i have heard she’s shopping out west for a transfer, UW should focus on locking up that libero transfer, by any means possible.
After that, if Dreschel decides to come home, great. Does she stay on the right or move to the left.... time will tell. The biggest asset she could provide on the right is at least SOME experience blocking. I think her arm can be effective on the left or the right. The thought of two freshmen pin blockers up against the gamut of talented Pac-12 LS’s makes me want that second drink.

Agree that UW needs passers most of all. I don't think a front row only, sub 180 hitter is going to help UW much, especially considering the incoming class.

Unlikely that this would ever happen but if Hailey Harward (LBSU) transferred in it would help UW right? I’m not sure how sub-par McPherson is, but she’s a skilled passer at a struggling LB program. I doubt she’d leave considering she also plays Beach and seems to enjoy herself there.

If Cook goes fishing for another big time OH in 2019 and comes back with an empty hook, he could always save the scholarship for a transfer in case a local talent decides to play a little closer to home after a year or two on the east coast *cough* Dreschel. well...

2019 Team (position by year):
OH Kara Bajema SR, Maria Bogomolova JR, Shannon Crenshaw So, Claire Hoffman SO MB Avie Niece SR, Lauren Sanders JR, Marin Grote SO, Sophia Dorsch-Summers FR OPP Samantha Drechsel JR, Dani Cole SO S Natalie Robinson JR, Ella Powell SO L/DS Shane McPherson SR, Cailin Onosko SR, Emma Calle JR, Sianna Houghton FR
Bajema, Niece, and McPherson graduate, but no 2020 commits have announced themselves. I'm assuming we might start hearing from them next fall (after official visits, junior year). Any thoughts on 2020 priorities? Any very good local recruits who might be looking at UW for 2020?
