Stanford goes to 27-0 and looked machine-like at times tonight. The eight days between matches was probably the reason they were fresh and mentally focused throughout the match. Boukather led the way with a variety of kills and some good back row D. Everyone else played at a pretty high level making this one of their best performances of the season. Utah played at a very high level in set one but they eventually gave Stanford a small opening and the Card took advantage and pulled out the set. The other two sets were pretty one-sided as Utah's passing and floor D broke down.

Stanford rolling. Can this team tie the record of most consecutive wins set by the 1991 team? The question is, will they break the record tomorrow against Colorado?

All Coach Dunning has to do is show tape of the Michigan match and the team will get his point.

All Coach Dunning has to do is show tape of the Michigan match and the team will get his point. Which one? I guess 2012, because they played in that one. We fans remember the others too... and so does the head coach. As an Illinois alum, I didn't need those losses to learn to hate Michigan... the Fab Five (also known as the best MBB team money could buy) gave me more than enough reason. Webber only stayed out of jail on money laundering charges because people in high places delayed his prosecution until the key witness against him was dead. Perhaps they should be prosecuted for obstruction of justice.

It was nice to see Boukather play so well by leading the team in kills and hitting.440 after a subpar match last week. She continues to be fun to watch. Howard had only two kills, one error , on 20 attempts for .050. While Burgess had a solid 10 kills, she hit .207 against Utah at home. Everyone keeps speaking about the need for more than one pin hitter to be on at the same time and as the tournament approaches the more concerning that trend becomes. McGehee is a minor concern but the consistent issue of when the opposing team gets her serve back over and hits at her she often shanks or completely misses it could be a problem in a tight match against a strong team. It an easy, obvious point. I was more optimistic after watching the USC match because she had a couple of really nice digs but she was back to what always appears to be confused and hesitant. It wasn't as bad as previous matches but scouting reports are going to have everyone hitting right at her and considering she has .30 SAPS, there's a good chance they'll have the opportunity. The system where one OH and both MBs are on has worked very well for them but it's not going to hold up very deep into the tournament. Here's hoping they can rise to the occasion when it's required because it's been quite rare that more than one pin hitter plays well during any given match. I am certain that Boukather and Burgess have the ability to come on strong but I have lost hope in Howard. I gained a bit back during the USC game but now it just feels like a tease. Are other holding out hope that Howard is going to get it together during the postseason?

Don't expect much from Howard she is used mostly as an outlet or save not as a critical part of the offense. This angst over Meghan's defense seems misplaced. She's only on the court to serve and she has a strong block in front of her. When she stops winning points she comes out so what's the big deal. Utah is a strange team: slap hitting and dunking pinball defense and the short flurries of hitting and blocking. First game was only close because Stanford couldn't win any old fashioned real points. Utah hardly won any. UW must have really stunk in Utah.

Howard didn't get a lot of good looks last night ... most of her sets were off of transition digs or off the net passes. The blockers pretty much knew that the sets were going to her.
